I've noticed a lot of new cameras going up in Tameside (East Manchester). They are half the width of a standard GATSO and have the front side angled down a bit. No road marking or loop in the road but the camera does seem to have some kind of detection device. It shoots from behind. What is it and how does it work?

Unlike all @ the camera website I visited. They have not been in long (~2wks) so wires/lines might not be installed yet. They are all on council maintained roads. Dummies?

I sometimes go through Tameside. Do these cameras look like red light cameras - but not situated at junctions? If so, I think they are GATSOs operated by wires in the road. Seen something like that in Liverpool.

Yes. Safe at the moment cos no evidence of road disturbance and no flashes.
