MIL light / ecu software / lumpy

Whats this? - 3 questions in 1 thread, yes sorry.
My MIL has been coming on more and more recently and now almost sings a tune as i go along. It used to go off after about 2-3 miles but today it didnt. Also noticed its lumpy ie at say 2000 rev in 2nd gear it was very hesitant (as if i was blipping the throttle on and off - but i wasnt).
Tried to hook up PC to ECU to investigate but kept telling me i was not connected. I have recently change PC and now have USB to serial converter - anyone else been sucessfull with one of these. thx

If You are using windows XP You should right click on the icon for the diagnosics software and then choose properties. In the dialog box You get then, You should choose the compability page. There You can tell windows XP to run the program in emulated windows 98 mode. The thing is that windows XP doesn´t adress the serial ports in the same way as windows 98, I have done like this with my computer that runs windows XP and the ECU program works perfect.

Emma,why because of its Metallic Rhaspberry colour.
So to cut it short I need a Manual and a copy of the software. I have trouble with MIL,
nothing new I hear you say,but I need help. I dont want to just look at it everyday.

Dumb question potentially, but you did have the ignition on and therefore power to the ECU when you tried the software?

Lambda sensor/s knackered or wet, throttle pots need adjusting/replacing, or water on your big fuse to start with (have you washed it recently?)
