Thought it was too good to be true, just had my broadband modem delivered.....thier latest one apparently 'smartax' ST330 mini modem......installs okay ....until you restart your computer next time and it won't access the web!
I've found i have to re-install the software to detect/configure my settings everytime i need to browse t'internet

2nd bout of unbridled joy was contacting 'customer' and 'technical' support (you have to pay 10p a minute for tech support!!!!)

EVENTUALLY got through to technical support ....'oh is your modem the smartax one?.....they are new and we've had several problems with it......you have to manually configure it.....we don't know anything about this one as it's only just come out, you'll have to contact our 2nd line support .....'

do you think i can get hold of this department?.....they can't put you through cos they are too busy.......will log you for a call back ......sometime in the next 10 DAYS!!!

Christ why is this sooooooo difficult?

is there any knowlegeable persons here that can solve a manual config problem with this piece of crap modem?

I have ordered a netgear dg834G wireless modem/router.....shall i just fit this or will i run into problems with configuring this too?

any help gratefully received......or does someone work at Talk Talk and can supply a good tech support number?
i will reply if i can get back 'on-line'

FT

if you are going to use a netgear DG834G wireless modem router, plug in a network cable into the router (any port) and one to the computer.
open up internet explorer and type 192.168.0.1
username: admin
password: password

go through the wizard and fill in the details.
once you log out the settings will be saved and it will connect to the ISP (you can check this with the "connection status" button; it will show that there is a connection)

There is a guy on here that works for Netgear and knows all the ins and outs of these routers.
i highly recommend them good luck

And for when you lose faith with them completely, for being inept and not delivering the service they said they would..... furious

Here is the freely available email addy of their CEO, Sir Charles Dunstone:- dunstonec@cpwplc.com.

I was 4 months into a 12 month contract with them, and the service was abysmal. One email to him, and 2 weeks later, they agreed to release me with no penalty.
