S3 Dashboard Heater Controls

I have got this really Naff Heater Control on me car
Plastic and straight out of a ford , Also it looks like the cable has come off the slider arm
Can it be removed easily and replaced with something better ? (if so where from ?
or can i get the cable back on without have to get the Dash off
You can just about see it in this picture

Not so sure about the S3, but on the S1/S2 You can reach it from the side,after you remove the side panels. However on the S3, while the position looks like the same, getting access may be harder as the clocks are directly below it and I don't know if you can remove the side panels so easy.

Here's a picture from the passenger foot well looking up (sideways) , on the left hand side of the picture you can see back of the heater control, if you can remove those side panels then you should be able to reach it (apart from the S3 clocks below it)
