Sagaris noise measurement
Discussion
Hi,
Noise meter results for Richard and anyone else who wonders.
Standard car but de-catted and intermediate pipes adjusted to "proper" size.
There are two readings for each rpm band, A-weighting responds to frequencies within the human hearing range in this instance between 500 and 10,000Hz and C-weighting which in this case responds to sound between 32 and 10,000Hz, all measurements taken about 1M from the centre of the car at the rear, microphone pointing towards the car, car stationary.
3000rpm = A weighting/ 86db
3000rpm = C weighting/ 97db
3500rpm = A weighting/ 88db
3500rpm = C weighting/ 97db
Richard, I hope this is of some use to you, if the weather is reasonable I am going to try to get a reading this weekend of the car going past the meter at speed and high in the rev range to simulate a track side reading, will keep you posted.

Hi,
I assume that the circuits will use the C weighting, but can't be 100% sure. As noise limits are ultimately down to local council requirements and relevant "noise pollution" issues I would expect that overall noise would be measured rather than just within "human" hearing range. I rather hope to be proved wrong on this one, if so we could get away with a bit more.

Hi,
I guess that this would indicate, for the purpose of comparison, that the C weighting is the most appropriate measurement. I feel sure that the guys at Bedford autodrome needed 4500rpm also, if I get the chance today I will try a measurement at 45 degrees to the exhaust at 4500 and see what we get.
