Triumph Speed Triple
Discussion
I'm thinking about buying an early (the first shape) 900 Speed Triple, and was just wondering if anybody had any views having owned/ridden one?
I've been told they can feel a bit on the porky side, and I'm sure that compared to the ZX6 I last had it will feel big, but hopefully it won't feel as tall and 'stood on its nose'!
If anybody has had one, does the flyscreen make life any easier on motorways- the main reason I'm after one is to head over to Ireland for the North West 200 next year which would involve some motorways. I know that there's more sensible mounts available for the trip within my budget (about 2 grand), but guess I'm a bit of a rocker at heart and I've always thought they look great!
Any views or advice appreciated.

I'm on my third speed triple......
First one stolen, sold second one (mistake), keeping this one.
A proper mans bike.
They are top heavy and will take some getting used too, but once you have they are great fun and will suprise loads of knee-down heros when they can't shake you.
And they sound fantastic on a race can.

I regularly used to ride from Dusseldorf to Sonthofen (Southern Bavaria) 600Kms on the autobahns and it was never much of a problem - just duck down behind the clocks if doing over 100mph. You can cruise all day @80-90mph without a screen and get over 200+ miles on a tank.
Having also lived in NI, be careful at the NW200 as the plod will be out in extra force from Thursday onwards and will be patrolling all the favourite scratching roads going north from Belfast and Larne (including the A2 coast road).
If you want to go playing that week, head to Strangford Lough - SW of Belfast. There is a circular route around the lough with a small car ferry between Portaferry and Strangford. Kirkistown circuit is also nearby.
Cheers all. I went to the North West last year, but in a car and I'm hoping to include it as the middle weekend of a full 'lap of Ireland' tour next year, which is why I'm thinking it's best to get the bike soon and iron out any gremlins early!
Suspect most of the time in or around Portrush for North West will be spent propping up (or laying under) a bar though!!
