Windscreen Insurance Claims
Discussion
Having read a few posts regarding replacement screens on insurance claims, I thought it might be worth bringing to everyones attention the predicament that i now find myself in after having claimed a windscreen myself on my insurance.
I'm with Norwich Union Direct and my policy says that i'm allowed 2 claims within 5 years and then after any further claims will occur a loss to my NCB.
So, having had the screen replaced, with a £60 excess cost and 1 claim, I had the misfortune of reversing into a low wall which resulted in claim number 2.
This will result in some minor repair work and a backend respray which totals around £600.
My point is, I now wish that i'd payed for the screen myself (quoted £180 + vat) as any further damage claims will result in me loosing my well earned NCB or I fork out for the repairs myself, either way i'm at a loss.
For the sake of saving £120 i'd still rather have that 1 claim available just in case something big did happen.
Just a thought...

You have a good point there..
Am just in the process of negotiating with my insurance company about a screen havig been hit by a few sizable lumps of rock thrown up a lorry on the M1 the other night, (now have a nice crack to go with the other one I picked up a month ago).
Current plan is to see if they can do it, but as they have already sent someone out who couldn't, and now tell me they can't get the part anyway, I'm not sure its worth the hassle..

Yep sounds right to me. You just pay your glass excess and your NCD is unaffected. I ended up paying for the job and claiming back the cost minus excess from Sunninghill, because I insisted my screen was done at the dealers. Only problem I had was waiting for a screen to arrive ....

I was informed earlier today that a new screen might run to £400!
Seem to recall post quoting similar prices. I'm hoping a stone chip will occur before the delamination gets rampant
My policy states that windscreen claims do not affect my NCB. I thought that this was the case with most policies.

Ed,
yes i have spoke to them and unfortunately in my case the windscreen does count as a claim.
I got that quote from Kerridges in October last year.

Why don't you try another insurer who does not have this restriction? Even with 1 genuine recent claim you may find a comparable or better quote so worth a try.
Total twaddle.

Any payment we make for repairing or replacing glass in your car’s windscreen, sunroof or windows (or for any scratches on the bodywork caused directly by the broken glass) will not affect your no-claim discount.

My cover for the GRIFF is with Norwich Union Direct and it states that "Claims for windscreen breakage and emergency treatment will not be counted in the above situations" humm clear as mud but seems to mean they Don't count..
Also recently had the windscreen changed was a bit of a hassle. Wanted the dealer to do it and they would not budge. After some hassle they told me to pay and clam it back which I did. When I then put the clam in I was told they would get a price from there fitters, and that’s what my claim would be based on
argued the proverbial but got know where so just sent then the paperwork.. After 3 months and having not seen any money I rang them back found out they had lost the paperwork and the person i had spoken with had not even entered/raised a claim on my policy

. In the end I just told them I wanted a check for the amount less the excess. And it was raised there and then and I got the check the next day
total cost £390 less excess...... (The new screen gained 5 chips the next day
)

Wow, the windscreen should not be a claim - most companies don't log this as a claim. I suggest changing insurers when your policy is up for renewal - there are a number of good places for TVR policies - Sunninghill, A Manning and Peart come to mind.
Just had my screen replaced without affecting my A Manning policy.

All the full comp policies I've have always included winscreen insurance, and in theory you could have a new one each year, as AFAIK the claims databases don't record these claims.
However, with all the problems I've had (see here), you might be better off getting it fitted at a specialist and biting the bullet with the cost.
