Discovered today that the carpets under and behind both the drivers and passenger seat of the car are soaking wet. (By this I mean the carpet lying flat on the floor, not up the side of the rear shelf area.) Found it when I noticed mould starting to form down the side of the seat. Even more worrying, when I moved the seat forward, found a seed that had started to germinate and grow.

The only time I can think I’ve been out in the wet was last Sunday morning when I left for Donnington and the SeeRed festival. The rain was heavy at times, but the carpets a week on are soaking still! It's kept in a garage the rest of the time.

Have looked to take the carpets up, but they're glued down and are fixed all around the underside of the seat, therefore guessing I need to take the seats out first!

Has anyone any experience of this happening or how to get the carpets up? Please help before I start growing tomatoes and all sorts!!

My old tuscan was like that , carpets came out quite easily once i removed the seats .Had to hang them on the washing line to dry , but the mould smell after was so bad i actually put them through a wash cycle in the washing machine . Plus the dampness in the car made all the seat fixings and frames rust .

If it's any help, there are several grommets on the engine bulkhead that could leak water in to the footwells. You could check the silicone sealant is OK and squirt some more in if necessary.

Also check the windows are sealing around the A pillars - Halfords Nylon Lube on the seals works well.

The fabric around the rear screen should be Fabsil-ed - mine used to leak badly unless it was proofed. Fabsil is available from camping equipment stores in case you can't find any.

Had exactly the same with my Tam over the weekend after the heavy rain. Will be using the car cover but also will get it into the garage I think. The drivers side was soaked!

I got rid of my Tamora because of this sort of fault. It's just as well the damn things are so cheap or you could get really p*ssed off with the smell of rotting interiors. It's such a shame ... a beautiful car with unbeatable performance but in this country we get rain ... seems to be something TVR never quite got to grips with.

ho hum

edited to remove:
"thats alitle harsh - mine leaked - did not take me long to find the issue and fix it (added some drainage holes into one of the seals on both sides) - that said my M roadster and mr2's all managed to leaked during the course of ownership." and replaced with "ho hum"

Thank you for all your responses. Have to say that if you (NigeW) found this fault the reason to sell your Tamora and other TVR's, it is a real shame. I believe that whatever the fault, there is always going to be a solution. As I've found since owning a TVR (6 months now) they do come with there little niggles. However, I'm not alone and from speaking or searching in this forum, I've found there is always a fix.

Next job is to find out how to remove the seats, carpet and dry the damn thing out!!!
