There is always talk on here about all the rubbish that is talked about the 996 being unreliable, however, I know of 4 cars that have all gone pop and have just heard from about guy I know whose 996 engine has disintegrated and is now on its way to Autofarm to get sorted.

It must be my love of the air cooled engine that is sending out bad vibes to people I know with a 996!

There are a hell of alot more 996 cars produced than the 993 so we will see a few more engine problems....those 993 s are great but not with out problems.

If i ever get something newer than a 993, it'll be a 996 GT3...

(thankfully GT3's don't have the same kind of engine as the C2/C4 996's and so aren't prone to the same RMS issues)

I think 993C4 really really wants a 996 to replace his antiquated VW beetle, so is trying to stir up the scaremongering so the prices will drop and he can afford a 'modern' Porsche hehe

Tongue firmly in cheek before you starting chanting 'burn him'

Nail, head, hit.

Either that or his door check straps have just failed again.

It is the same with every manufacturer - they build good and bad cars. Just ask the guys on the M5 forum yikes

chances are the 993 is so old, and mainly built of brass, that most of their parts have been repalced by now anyway

996's do have their problems but IMHO (which means nothing of course) they are simply stunning. After a VERY HARD mornings thrashing, my car then whisked me home in perfect comfort and at no time did I ever feel the urge to worry that something was going to go bang, even though the car spent most of the morning reving to the red line, in every gear (except 6th - only slow drivers put their cars in 6th eh Gary )

i wasnt going to rise to it but i seen the amount of incorrect info so thought id quietly speak up.

do a search, you will see the rear main seal needs replacing after time like any seal, its perishable and happens in any porsche model.

dont be under any dissalusion here

yes most of the 993 owners dont want to admit it, old fellas get like that, but the proof is here in PH, just do a search ohh and 964 and 996 turbo cars too for the record

no point in holding it in 5th if there is another gear there!

The 993v996 banter is great on here.

but since the 997 came along aren't we all friends as we don't have the 'current' 911?

I was facing a 996 at the lights the other day in my 993 - we both did the 'is he going to wave or do a thumbs up' look and as he was looking very interested in my car I gave him a subtle wave. He waved back enthusiastically - yeeahh my first wave from a 996!

So that's it now I'm gonna wave at every 996 I see. So I'll be waving all day as they're so common... damn I can't help it!

I had someone in a boxster wave at me yesterday...

seeing how he was driving a superior water-cooled Porsche i thought it only proper to wave back hehe

by the look of recent 996 prices I'd hazard a guess that 993C4 could trade in his Beetle for a 996 and still have money left over which could be put away for the RMS fund.

couldn't resist

This was not a wind up, it has actually happened and there is no way you will get me in a 996 after all the 996's I know of personally that have had serious engine problems.
