Tapping / knocking noise from passenger side rear wheel

Hi All - hope you have all had a good weekend - looking for some advice

was flying around the epsom downs in my cerbie this afternoon - and have developed a "new noise"

There is a ligh tapping / knocking noise from what sounds like (at least inside the cabin) to be coming from the rear passenger side rear will. It is cyclical with the turning of the wheel, but is very light in noise

it is exremely hard to hear with the noise in the cabin, but can just about make it out

guess i am thinking of bearings / drive shaft / diff

any ideas any one?

Could be brake pads rattling in the caliper, common fault i believe. However, mine doesn't do it.

Does it stop when you are braking? If so it might be the pad?

yes - it does stop when i brake, that being said - its sort of hard to hear it over the squeal of the brakes....

if it is the pad rattling in the caliper - what is the fix please?

also - one other thing that may / may not confirm this - as the wheel starts revolving at a faster pace (i.e get faster)- the noise appears to subside again - does this also help the diagnosis?

Could be a lose wheel nut

Presume you checked that there isn't a stone lodged in the tread?

so I checked tapping noise - and it definitely subsides as I start applying brakes - so am guessing that as you suggested - this is caused by rattling pads (i.e. small amount of movement of pad in caliper) - is there anyway this can be addressed? shimms / foam backs on the caliper etc?

Definately brake pads. Put a small dob of high temp silicon sealant on the pad in the contact area with the caliper piston. Should also help with any brake squeal too.
