Hi all,

Bought a march 06 6.0 vxr last weekend with 4000 odd miles on the clock. From driving it i have a few questions about it (there are no official monaro dealers in ni to ask anymore).

On cold starts there seems to be a lot of belt squealing, once things get heated up it goes away - is this normal?

What exactly is the service interval, is an oil change req every 6000 miles?

Whats the recommended after-market exhaust setup? What will get a more aggressive muscle car sound?!

Any other things I should watch out for?

Have to say I love the car, easy to drive at a relaxing pace but fun to drive at a faster pace too.

Many thanks all,

steve

Don't know about anything else really but for sound it's got to be the Wortec system with headers, you will not beleive your ears!

There is really two routes to go down with the exhaust.

The most popular appears to be Wortec.

Milltek also produce a system. However, I have never seen/heard one of these so I cannot comment.

The Wortec cat-back exhaust sounds fantastic and really does sounds a lot more like a V8 should sound. You will find a lot of people on this forum that have had this done.

BUT, if you really do want the best sound then go for the complete system. You really do have to hear this to believe it

I took a little vid of the exhaust and you can hear it HERE. This is on a 6.0 VXR and if I am being honest the video really doesn't do it justice.

Apparently it also raises BHP/Torque significantly but it is worth it for the sound alone.

As for the noises on a cold start, I have never experienced this or heard of anyone having these problems. If I was you I would get this checked out. Did you not notice this when you bought it?

Maybe check the belt tensioner there is a stretch mark on it. Make sure you are within spec or replace the belt.
Better yet you can try a new belt and keep the old for a spare. They are available for under £20 from motorfactors etc. 6PK1995 I think is the offical size, but 6PK2000 is easier to come by, easier to fit and still works fine.
Could also be a noisy bearing on something. You can fire it up with the belt off for a few seconds and see if its one of the accessories.
