Never enough...

Oh dear.
I had hoped that hiring a shiny CBR600RR this weekend would prove to me that a modern 600 was far more of a scary beastie than my old hack CBR600F, and that I could happily start thinking about buying a two or three year old in January or February, when its horrid, and they'll be a smidgeon cheaper.
I thought the power increase would see me right, along with the weight reduction. Easy, says I. More bike, not too hideous an insurance increase, everything is nice and happy.
Wrong. First hour is spent whizzing around South London, muttering happily to myself. Sharper power, lighter response, we like this bike. Off we trundle to Reading in the afternoon, see what its like on a slightly longer run. I know its all weight saving, but surely 20 grammes of something cushiony wouldnt have come amiss? Padding merely invites Trades Description action. humph.
The kicker comes yesterday, as I trundle up to J20 of the M1. Its slightly faster from standstill, but the power band seems narrower, and the bike is less forgiving of being a cog too high. A lot less forgiving. As I was visiting an airfield, it would have been rude not to, really, so we discover that the bike tops out at 162 indicated, around 10 less (indicated) than the 600F. I suspect it gets there faster, and the bloater on top doesnt help, but its not encouraging.
Which leads me to think that I might as well skip the 750, and head straight for litre lunacy.
Thoughts?

I went from a CBR600FY to a CBR600RR and was overall impressed and pleased with the decision. Yes you are right, it is not much quicker and the padding in the seat is SH!TE but i felt it was just so much easy to handle you could just throw it all of the place and point it the direction you want to go and it did it. The CBRFY felt heavy and a bit of a lump. The accerlartion from a standing start i thought was a bit better and once at a high speed seemed to have a bit more torque on the RR but topping out at 162, that surprises me, i took mine up to 155 (bike reading) private road of course and it seemed to have lots more.
Friends have recently gone from the 600c to the litre and they have not looked back at all. I think the only way you will make you mind up is by riding them. It also come down to what you want it for. Twisties and country lanes the 600cc is better, out and out speed with lots of straights the litre all the way.
