Thumbing through the local rag at the Invicta Tandoori I noticed the following ...

Apparently central govt has asked Kent to assess which roads should have their speed limits reduced. Kent seem to have replied "err, we want a blanket reduction to 50mph for all A and B roads". Apparently they didn't get any funding to do the analysis road by road, so they thought they'd just ask for a blanket reduction. Fortunately Westminster told them to sod off. Imbeciles, nincompoops, useless, useless turds.

There's an A road near to where my parents live that I used to cycle down every day to get to school, on either side of it are corn fields and not alot else, when I was a kid it was rightly so an NSL single carrageway and cycling it every day for 6 years I never had a problem with that, however for no explicable reason a few years ago it became a 40mph and a favorite for the scamera man, then to top it all over the weekend I drove down it and it has now become a 30 !!! It's mental the road is clear, open, with good visability has a pavement seperated by a raised grass bank and about 15' yet they'v e made it a 30.

Sounds like a recipe for income-generation.

See a stupidly low limit? If so, you're bound to see a camera van on a regular basis or a static camera installed.

I wonder if the bright sparks at KCC had estimated the cost of littering the entire county with 50mph signs every 100yds?

too right. I do over 50k a year, yet to see a scamera van in a village by a school etc. If the article in the MSN was right a few weeks back (leaked to them by a biker MP) then central Gov will be pushing all local councils to reduce the limits on all rural roads. its thought that it is to make 'alternative' routes less of an option when toll charging comes in.

As for the cost of all those signs - we will pay as usual. I live in Kent and my council tax is now up 3x what it was pre-Blair. This is the same council that left the main road in such a dangerous state of disrepair despite people contacting them that in the end I went out with a camera, plastered loads of photos onthe net and contacted the press - bingo we were just about to do it they said - yeah right. The only thing they did before the press were involved was put up a nive welcome to.... sign boardbanghead

less that 4 months on and despite the road being relayed in the spring and still being in 'newish' condition a couple of weeks back it was dug up and completly relaid againbanghead

I think the problem lies here not with KCC but on the gov't asking for yet a nother study on this or on that. How much of OUR money is wasted each year on these osrt of studies and on extra civil servants to administer all this!!

One council is even spending no sorry wasting my money on putting up loads of local art and trying to create an artists quater!! I would not mind but when they get the essentials properly funded like schools and the health service oh and ensuring I can walk about at night then I might like to see anice sculpture but not before! But its okay my council tax will go up again next year.furious

It takes 4 people to put white paint around pot holes uno - 2 white hats to look on as worker watches the other do the paint. Can you imaging how simple it would be if they sent out a team of workman to say area A oneday do check the roads and to repair anything that needs doing but hey this is Britain that would mean workman being able to use common sense and think for themselves - that cant be allowed

Just another sad waste of Taxpayers money.

When they start taking wasted project costs out of the monthly peanut mountain of the monkies who implement them they will continue on.. Sadly changing central Govt won't do too much to change this either.
