I'm selling my moped and I'm wondering what I should do if a buyer wants a test ride. My concern is that a buyer might damage it or steal it. The ideal situation would be if the buyer leaves the full asking price in cash with me, but I don't know if people would be happy to do that. Have anyone here ever done that? Is it a common practice?

If the buyer has comprehensive insurance then I needn't worry about what would happen if they damage the bike but it would be no use if they steal it. I could follow them in my car but might they be offended by that?

Any suggestions?

In my opinion, the only way is if they leave the full amount with you in cash, on the understanding that if they bend it they mend it. That's how I played it when I bought my bike. Anyone genuine will be entirely understanding about this.

Yes, do this and make it clear when people phone up. If you aren't happy doing that then trade it in.

I should probably clarify that by "bending and mending", I do in fact mean buying. They bend it, it's theirs.

Sorry.

As above, take the full asking price - if they give it too much throttle and high side it, you want to know you've got the money in your pocket!

Don't forget that if you let someone ride it who isn't insured you commit an offence.

Merely drawing breath is getting close to being an offence in this place. What's life without a few risks?

Taking risks is about knowing the score and going for it anyway... mrs miggins is probably furnishing the information required so that you can knowingly take a risk rather than find out later in time when you're up to your neck in shit rather than suggesting that it shouldn't be done.

Fair point... though I'd have thought it should be fairly obvious that here in Nannystatesville, the paperwork is more important than the activity it covers.
