Hi, I have jsut tried to book a tour for my dad for his birthday as he has a TVR but apparently they arent doing them as there is a health and safety issue due to them being about to move out. Anyone know anything that could be organised very short notice ie before the weekend or know anyone who can get us a tour at the factory?

Cheers

TVR are not moving locations.

Factory tours dont happen any more unless you have a car in build and even then its at the factory's discrecion (sp?).

Well I just rang up and got a load of lies then, apparently they are moving out of the premises whilst some refurbishment work or building work is carried out then they are moving back. They said to try in the new year sometime once they have moved.

There have been 5 lay offs on our small trading estate in the last week and we are laying off a driver this morning....

Believe me..it's not a nice thing to do, especially before Christmas...in fact...it's hateful...but you have to do it to ensure the jobs of the rest of the workers!

Quite frankly, with all the talk on here of workers sitting around reading papers at TVR I am amazed that there haven't been lay offs already. At least the staff have been getting paid for doing nothing (supposedly and as has been reported by the workers themselves!)

I wish I had the money to be able to pay our guys for sitting sround....but unfortunately I don't!

So yup...grab your coat and please do scarper....because that sort of rolly eyes comment winds the people up who are having to make some really tough decisions that affect peoples lives!

Hi Pauline, yep tough decisions but those that make them eat turkey. I would hazzard a guess that IF they are paid whilst layed off it's because their contracts state "x" hours per week with no get out clause. Legislation as you will know, allows for layoffs at any time but on full pay unless your contract states otherwise or by mutual agreement. Been on both ends of this myself and believe me its much easier having to deal with the morals than being skint. BTW this is not a pop at youthumbup

PS. 500 of us will be laid off at Christmas permanently (factory closure). I,m lucky because I see it as a chance to move on to better things.

500 yikes Jeez I knew things were really getting tough, but that's serious laying off.

Trouble is redundancies cost so much money at a time when companies can ill afford it.

I feel truly bad enough this morning about making one redundant as, with two depots, we are small enough to run as a family business and I know all the staff personally as friends.

I know you're know having a go at me and to be honest my post came across as aggressive cos I'm not a happy bunny today and it just touched a nerve.

The guy who is going is young and single with no mortgage or children, but he still has a life and I've just affected the way he lives it. Hopefully he will find another job soon.....as hopefully, will you.

Hope this is not age discrimination YP - last in first out can no longer be justified in law

Redundancy for me is not a worry as I will be starting a new company.

You are absolutely right...he wasn't the last in!

These are more enlightened times and we (when absolutely forced to) now choose people according to their value to the company.

If you are about to start your own business I wish you the very best of luck....there are times when ..believe me..it's no picnic.

Still, it means, according to you, that you will always eat turkey!

Really...best of luck...the hours are long but the rewards can be good when the economy is buoyant.
