Hi All,

Sorry if this has been posted before but at this moment in time Ted seems to be giving the search hamster a day off!

We (well the Wife) are looking at getting our first camcorder. It will mainly be used to the usual run of the mill stuff. However, my wife is a teacher and would like to film her technology practicals as well. She is looking at a DVD camcorder as she thinks it will be easier to view the end result (i.e. fling the disc into the player) and also run off copies for other teachers.

We have seen in the Jessops catalogue a Sony DVD105 for £290. It looks good on paper but my questions are;

1, Are DVD camdorders any good or are we best sticking to digital tape?
2, Are Sony (indeed the model mentioned above) any good. What other brands are good up to about £350?

Can only speak for number 2

Sony are about as good as they come. Rest assured in that regard.

Hi there,

I have a DVD-755 which is a Singaporean self import, shhhhhh.

Anyway it's a very similar beast and so far I am very happy with it. with the following notes!

a) Buy it cheaper here or here...

www.bestcameras.co.uk/shop/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Sony_DCR_DVD105_video_camera____152.html?ref=kelkoo
www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DCR-DVD105E-Handycam-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B000E3Z094/sr=1-1/qid=1160424930/ref=sr_1_1/202-2564873-0242258?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

b) Do you own a mac? If so the Sony and the Mac don't really like each other which is very unusual but it disappointed me. PC is ok as it comes with some software for PC only.

c) Editing capabilities are limited compared to a HD or DV camera. The version you are buying may not have even a USB port, worth checking, depending on your needs.

d) Do you have a slot loading DVD player, if so the baby discs are a problem, you need a tray loader to use the small discs.

Other than those observations, the camera I have is top notch, great zoom, comes online to record quick, very small, easy to hold still and instantly shareable via any DVD player.

Editied to say you might want to check if there is a difference between the 105 and the 105E.
