Do secondhand digital SLR's have a second hand value and if so how does it stack up? My last SLR 35mm was a second hand Contax 167 with T* lenses and it sold for more than I paid. Don't think I'll have the same luck with Digi cams...

I guess it depends on how long you keep it!

My D70 kit - purchased for £714, sold 18 monhts later for £450 (if I remember correctly)

Yes they do but the depreciation looks to be far more pronounced than with 35mm. The reason being the continual development of digital technology brings superior image quality at the same price to the market - about every two to three years (possibly less).

So people interested in purchasing, say, a used D2X aren't just concerned with shutter actuations and how soon the next service and its cost will be. They are also taking into account how soon the D99X and its 220 million pixel sensor with ten bazillion autofocus points, built in wifi, bluetooth and death ray is going to arrive making their purchase look outdated.

Its not rational particularly as the image quality of modern DSLRs is already amazing - and will still be amazing in five years time despite the new ones being more amazingly amazing (to quote Zaphod Beeblebrox). But this effect is still there IMO.

If you want to work out what any camera is worth eBay is an excellent reference.
