Currently on Continental N2s apparently. They need replacing so was just going to go with the same

Interested what other people on here run?

Just after a good all round tyre, which i was led to believe the conti's are, but open to suggestions.

Also, where in london to get them? Currently best price is £779 for the 4. Reckon its worth a drive to burn off what is left of my tyres and getting out of london?

im on Pzero's...

mainly because that was what was on before, plus the rears were these new - so i figure i'd keep them matched...

When Autocar ran a long-term 996, they specifically recommended the Pirelli Rossos (N4 I think), claiming that they were far better than the Michelin Pilots - quieter, more compliant and better handling in the wet and dry, but possibly not as durable.

I had a 996 at the time and changed from Contis to Pirellis and, I must say, I thought the Pirelli Rossos were excellent.

I really didn't like Assimetricos on my C4... They never seemed particularly stable at speed. The Conti SportContacts I'm on now seem much better and at least they've got some form of rim protection which the Pirellis that were on mine originally lacked. I know rim protection ain't the end of the world, but when you catch your rims it suddenly seems to matter so much more!

996 C2 - Pirelli Rosso's. Need replacing and best prices hereabouts are Michelin Pilot Sport N1 at £594 all up for set of 4. This is from Costco who are running a 20% off promo at the moment. So I'm giving them a try.
Opinions here suggest that Pilots last better but arent so grippy. Will I have to watch it, and can I also expect to be relying on this PSM gizmo a bit more?

Michelin Pilot Sports - very hard wearing, excellent wet and dry grip. MUCH prefer them to the Pirellis. Never tried the Contis. Am thinking of some Toyos in the future...but only for summer.

thanks Don - that's a big relief - I've got a boxter driving neighbour who uses Pilots & likes them.

Yep, same for me too !
Cheapest way to actually buy tyres may be on the internet but then you've still got to have em fitted/balanced etc. Anyone any idea what tyre dealers would charge approx, per corner, for fitting/balancing etc.?

The place I use locally was twenty quid cheaper than athe net and that included all the fitting/balancing etc.

I've got Pirelli P Zero Asimetrico on the rear and Direzionale on the front in N4.

This combo is what Pirelli recommend. The alternative is Asimetrico all round but not Direzional on the rears.

I love them, wet or dry and will buy the same when they run out.

Nor me. When I lived in Solihull, it was still cheaper for me to do the nigh-on 200 mile round trip down there to get tyres for the S2000 than to source them locally!

Not relevant to the subject at hand but my 993 came with P Zero Rossos on it. Just thought I'd share that now I feel like I properly belong to this happy band of Porker-owning brothers! biglaugh

I run mine with Michelin Pilot Sport N2’s. Have found them to be grippy and hard-wearing with very predictable handling – they’re just not cheap!

The fronts and rears haven’t needed replacing at the same time, so I’ve replaced them in pairs to keep the same tread pattern and Porsche rating front to back.

Had the last pair of rears fitted at my local OPC while it was in for servicing – set me back £600 though! - D’oh!.
Will be surfing the interweb for the next pair.

I like the fact that the Michelins have the rim protector too – same as the Conti’s. As BliarsGoing pointed out – not a big thing until they save you kerbing an alloy.

P.S – My first post, so glad that it was in a sensible and informative thread!

Fronts have 5mm on outside, 3mm on inside

Rears are 3mm outside 2mm inside

Just get new rears do you think?

Touch and go.... I was driving through 3" of water this morning on my way to work. With winter on the way and the possibility of aquaplaning I would consider new fronts too. Deeper tread=better water displacement.
