TVR Freindly garage in derby/notts
Discussion
Collected my chim 4.0 yesterday and after wadeing through all the receipts and history i noticed the last 54k service was on jan 04 @ 47k on the receipt.
This car has now got 51k on the clock wich corresponds with the MOTs.
So it looks as this car has done about 5k in 30 months.
Would you service it at a TVR dealer or use a std garage or just replace the oil?
Its a 1996 car and cost 8.5k just wondered what the thoughts are for a car this age and value and what owners would do in my situation.
Thanks for any advise.
On another note i am missing a spare set of keys which incldes a cobra alarm fob and a immoboliser.
Are these easy to replace?

A few ideas here.....

The thing with taking it to someone who is a TVR specialist rather than your local spanner man is it's the TVR bits that are important, if it was just an oil change any monkey could do it, but if you look at the service schedule there is a lot of things that are checked that someone that doesn't know TVR's wouldn't have a clue how to do.

Just so you don't turn up to a quiet pub the TVRCC meeting was last Sunday.
For details of the next one.....in about a month.

Hi animal,, My advice would be to avoid dealerships like the plaque, you will soon run up a huge bill. All the main components on the car are taken from ford/land rover and as such can be serviced by any competent mechanic. £400-£500 for a service is ridiculous and some will charge even more plus what they will charge to remedy any other faults that come to light. I dont have a V8 TVR at the moment but i owned a Chim 450 for 5 yrs and always had it serviced at a garage near Lincoln.A guy called Dan Mellady. A bit out your way but he could save you a packet! I think he now charges about £200 for a full service and i know he looks after a good few TVRs so knows his stuff. Not got his no on hand but i'll pass it on if of interest.
Oh, and enjoy your new beast

Hi
I'm taking mine to Richard Thorpe in Sheffield tomorrow so will let you know what I think next week but he does come recommended. £325 for a 12K mile service. 0114 281 7507
Dan Melladay is at Skellingthorpe near Lincoln, 01522 509099 £210 for a 12K mile service, he looks after about 20 or so TVR's. I'm very near to him and will take a trip over to see him some time.
I asked the same question a week or so ago, service in North Notts I think it was, there were a few comments about Peter Smiths might be worth you looking.

Hi with regards to servicing in the Lincoln Area I can thoroughly recommend Dan Mellady at Skellingthorpe. He did my yearly service on my 450 Chimaera for £210 and I have just taken it back today after he noticed that my advance/retard wasnt working and my rear anti-roll bar cross member was cracked. Dan is a genuine guy and he will do his upmost to help you.
After talking to him tonight he is going to be able to stamp the log book with his own TVR Independent stamp, so give him a call on 01522509099, you will not be disapointed.

Brian, Paul welcome it is good to hear of more owners close by. There are four or five of us locally, who get together especially going over to club meets, so keep in touch if you fancy joining up with us. We are very sociable, one's a golfer (chim), one drives a tractor (Tuscan), one's a kerb crawler
(Tuscan 2 with matching front and rear punctures) don't ask !!!! and a grumpy old bugger with the smallest motor (that would be me then).
Much as I hate them they are all good company (actually, they are a bunch of raving lunatics)
Best Regards,
Ray
I'll bet RToy will be along soon, so I'd better go!!
