How can i play mini disc in the car?

I want to use my mini disc player in my car as my current Cd changer jumps more than a jack in the box. I don’t particular want to fork out for an in car mini disc player as I rarely spend more than a couple of hours a week in the car it seems pointless. I have looked at the cassette style converters but have heard that they are not particularly good and provide poor sound quality. I could wire the mini disc directly to the phono input to the Stereo and see what happens but I’d rather leave this connected to the Cd changer. Any idea’s?

Have you got a cassette slot in the dashboard. If so, try a minidisc adaptor. Mine has a cigarette lighter power cable and a cassette with a wire that plugs into the headphone slot on the minidisc and then I velcro the minidisc onto the dash. It was about £20 from Argos.

Whats the sound quality like ?

Worse than CD,much better than tape. 'Crisp' like CDs but a bit more hiss.

Have you thought about changing the springs in your CD multiplay?

Can't you buy a new CD head unit for about £100 nowadays? I know 18 months ago I bought a Kenwood minidisc radio headunit for £170 from a UK internet site. Email me offline if you want the site details.

Other than that MrsD's suggestion would be the cheapest route.

If you can find one get the sony casette adaptor is much better than the goodmans in terms of sound quality never got any his from it ,

I suspect you won't hear a little background hiss inside a TVR.....

Although I've got a MD head unit in the SEAC, I use a cheap cassette adaptor with a portable MD player in my Pug 205 daily drive. Only problem is a rattle it makes as it spins its spindles. However, I can only hear the noise when at the lights so it's not really a problem.

ok here are some things to consider,
(background) after switching to the Porsche which has a harsher ride than my Capri, I noticed my CD changer was jumping all over the place

I tried all sorts of things, including
1) changine postition/place and security of mounting for the changer, this all failed

The Changer, was one of the older ones which used "spring" type dampening, I took it apart and all was ok, to be honest it works or doesnt, there is nothing to replace or alter.

The "spring" type are generally fine in cars which dont have a sports set up or driving over potholes etc.

newer CD changers use a buffer/read ahead device. what happens is the changer reads ahead about 8-10seconds, so if the head jumps, it has 10 seconds to settle down, and in the mean time it is always playing what is in memroy. hence NO or veryu very little jumping.

This is Standard, so chnaging to a new changer will resolve your problem.

I use an MD chnager in mine, along with a tape head unit. I went for the Clarion setup, which was cheaper than the sony.

You may find you cant change the changers as depending on the age, a new changer may be incompatible with your head unit (I know it boollx to get ypu to spend more money), so it may be cheaper to buy a head/cd changer or head/md unit.

again with my MD there is no jumping as it has 10secnods read ahead. all the same functions and remote control, occasionally it will throw out MD's

I would strongly suggest NOT to go down the road of these add on devices which utilise the tape deck as a feed for MD or CD, there crap, you loose quality and it defeats the object, if you get hiss !

get the proper stuff and your ears will love you for it !
