I see a lot like this, the embedded image is what contains the real content, something to sell you Viagra, softare or stocks.

The textual content is designed to slip past spam filters by having some text that looks OK.

Is this a home machine? what spam filtering do you have?

If you have some sort of content filter you should be able to block the emails by adding the text (if it stays the same) to the filter.

The problem with these spams is that they're specifically designed to get past most filtering solutions, the phrases used are utterly random snippets each time, the only common thing being the .gif or .jpg that contains the advert.

SpamByes? Might be able to learn to cope with them though, Thunderbirds in built spam catcher takes a while to train but catches 9 outta 10 of them and if you run your own mailserver SpamAssassin and Rules De Joure seems to belt the buggers on the head.

All true, but what I don't get is there's nothing in the content to suggest they are selling something, it's like stocks and shares, which makes little sense to me anyway

Ok. Basically the idea of the stocks thing is to generate interest in the stock with the day traders. They buy the stock driving up the price per share which makes the company more valuable. Then you (the spammer, person who paid for the spam, etc) sell all of your stock at the inflated price making lots of money... which again deflates the price leaving the day traders holding worthless/delisted stock.

If your quick you can ride the stock and dump it just before they do however most people don't micromanage their portfolio that closely and thus get burned... not that you care as you've made your money and are already buying up stock of another company to repeat.
