Engine question

Hi,been thinking about getting a Griffith but would be grateful if someone could tell me exactly what a " Serpentine engine " is. Thanks.

"Serpentine " describes the drive belt arrangement on the later RV8's
Earlier non-serpentine had the older more traditional fan belt arrangement.

I think the name serpentine was used 'cause it looks like some sort of snake wrapped around the various pulleys...

The belt is about 25mm wide and pretty much flat.

The serpentine engine is slightly preferable because it has higher capacity oil and water pumps, but it doesn't make much difference and other aspects of the car's condition are far more important.

And dont be! Just dont think your getting a Ford Escort, these cars are hand built and need regular maintenance, but as long as you keep on top of the obvious stuff then you should have no problems.

Also these boards are a mine of useful info, but it can be like reading a medical dictionary, where suddenly every squeak and whine is terminal for the car and your bank balance.

But most of all get one and enjoy it! Chims are better BTW!!

Wise man; homework is essential. Suggest you get the Griffith and Thingy Handbook by Steve Heath; ideal bedtime reading for all would-be owners, and may save you a packet too.
