Absolutely terrible news, and I might add, becoming increasingly common.
I am absolutely fed up with the stupid 'safety' partnerships and their narrow minded judgement that catching people speeding will make the roads safer.
Sorry about this but i'm a bit emotional at the moment, and I am getting incredibly fu**ed off with my local pratnerships constant barrage of flourescent signs saying things like 'speed, pay the price', and 'speed thrills, pain lasts'.
I was in the car with my g/f the other night and this real f**king boy racer t**t tried to ram her off the road, purely because she flashed her rear fog light at him because he had his stupid cheapo blue front fogs on and they were blinding her (it was a clear night). No sad yellow sack of s**t box of tricks is going to catch him unless he speeds past one.
What also really hacked me off was a news report on my local radio station saying they (the lying ba**ard pratnership) will be out in force on the A1 at Cambridge over the weekend with the vans etc because there have been so many deaths on the road.
How utterly narrow minded, what about watching for lethal cars, drugged and drunk drivers, tailgaters, dodgy immigrants who probably hold a 'ghost' licence, people who can't see properly etc etc. Speed accounts for about 5% of accidents and this has been proven lately.
But what really tipped the scales recently for me was when I paid a visit to Lincolnshire Road Safety (Speed Camera) Partnership's site at my local annual village show a few months ago. I said - 'You say you are a road safety partnership but how come all I see is your vans and speed cameras, and by the way what do you do for the interests of cyclists?'.
The chap replied ' oh well we do so much more, we work with the police and aid them in catching drink drivers etc (eerrmmm no you don't), we also work with road engineers making roads safer (eerrmmm every road change you have done seems more dangerous!!)'.
'Yes, but what about cyclists like myself?'
'Well we don't really invest anything for cyclists as there were only around 30 KSI's involving cyclists last year'!!!!!
WTF What a stupid attidute. And this was all backed up by a camera van operator (who used to be in the army) who had a really smug look on his face.
How mad am I feeling about all this at the moment, makes my blood boil. I have been meaning to send an email to the t**sers and I think I am bloody well going to do it now!!

i agree %110 but i don't think your e-mail will even get you a response , i have a friend who is a strathclyde traffic cop and his view is that the gov is not as much concerned with the death toll on the roads but is more concerned with re-couping the costs and then some , if there was a front line in educating people and preventing road crime then this would have an impact on the revenue produced by cameras , go onto some of the scottish sites and they will tell you the amount these cameras are making in comparisson to the amount of police cars that are designated into patrolling the roads, more cameras fewer cop cars , cameras don't need a pension
