Hi guys.

I've just received my court summons for being pulled over doing 120mph on the A11 back in June.
After having a lengthy coversation with an ex-traffic policeman friend, and my previous post in SPL it appears I can't fight this case in anyway.

So to ask you guys, what should I expect in terms of punishment?

I'm 21, driving 4 years, 6 points already and no mittigating circumstances (beyond living in the middle of no-where!)

Many thanks,

Darren

Definite ban, but on the bright side, this should zero the license in terms of points

I wouldnt look forward to renewal time, if I were you...

You may even be pushed for a re-test...

A ban is a given, but how long do you think?

I was told worse case scenario.....£500+ fine, 5 points, 12 month ban AND a poss re-take test.

I would say it depends on the following:

1) How much humble pie you can eat
2) The mood of the magistrates
3) The quality of your suit and the neatness of your haircut, and eye contact
4) Not bullshitting them
5) What you plan to do to make sure it doesn't happen again
6) Financial hardship (but no bullshitting)

Make it look like you're truly sorry for what you did, not sorry because you were caught at it.

Turn up looking smart, speak when you're spoken too, tell them that you're planning to (or HAVE - but only if its true!) sell the car and buy something that isn't as quick to take away the chance of doing it again. Don't try to argue it was a lapse of judgement, 6 points already shows it wasn't.

If you not having the car impacts on others like wife / children / employees (not likely).

Yeah, some good advice above.

Get a neat haircut - a well fitted suit - a good shave.

Be polite, embaressed and VERY respectful. Dont try and BS your way out of it - Fully accept what you did, admit it was wrong, a lapse in judgement.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I will indeed appear in the aforementioned suit and neat haircut. The car is technically my Dad's, plus i genuinly intend to partake in a driving course once any ban is over.

As for finances, I'm unemployed, but my parents give me £50 per week.

Darren

ETA: The 6 points were for an accident last year (Driving without due care, but nothing to do with speeding). It won't make much difference, just FYI

ouch!

The fact you are unemployed is likely to mean a lower fine - but due to that a heavier weighting on the ban side.

Still....what length of ban would you suppose I would get?

hard to say.

I'd guess at 12 months - probably a re-test also.

Really sorry to hear about this travesty of "justice", however can you help me out by telling where/how on the A11 it happened? I may have occasionally let my speed creep over the 70mph mark along there...

Sorry to hear this, i've had a similar experience some time ago.

In adition to the sound advice above, i would add that you should avoid any statement such as "i didn't realise how fast i was going" -or anything similar.

I fronted, said i knew what speed i was doing, the car was designed to travel at that speed - and stop from it. The road was clear and dry, weather conditions were fine etc etc.

Above all, show deep regret and be humble.
Good luck

The worst possibility is 6 points. That would make you a totter - real bad. I have seen it happen

A totter only gets 6 months.

He might get a month to 6 weeks if he's unlucky...

But its not for a totter - 120mph is a summons... fine, points and ban at discretion of Majistrate.
