Sports seats on a 964/993

Standard seats are a bit high and just don't seem to hold me in place very well. If/when I buy another 911, I'd like RS/GT3 style seats or similar to hold me in place better and sit closer to the floor (being lanky, head and knee room is an issue for me).

What seats are available, how much do they cost?

Also, how easy are these to fit, can they be easily swapped in and out for track days etc? I don't mind about the seats matching the interior trim unless the back can moved for access to the rear, in which case I'd want to fit them permanently.

GT3 seats are a popular upgrade for the 993 - loses lots of weight too!

Gert at Carnewal sells the required brackets (and the seats) I think - he may be able to answer your other questions too.

The best source for the GT3 seats (genuine) in cloth seem to be about £1k a piece, in leather about £1.2k a piece.
We purchased a pair of copies in carbon fibre (actual real carbon fibre) with black suede for £740 a pair including side mounts.
We're just sorting out slide rails now, we have a simple solution but it's undergoing some revisions.

The hardback sports seats on vario 993s are comfy and light. They do fetch pretty good money though.

Some say the earlier sports seats on 993s and 964s fit more people though. Never tried them myself.

The seats VS and I have are very comfortable indeed, but boy they wear them tight about the hips.

So if you are on the lardy side you may want to check the fit first.

AS VS says we have one seat (mine) mounted in a 993 on slide rails, so fore and aft adjustment is available, but the sliding rails mean you give away a little height - ie its not quite as low as it could be, though its definitely lower than a standard 993 comfort seat will go.

I'm looking into having a pair of custom side mounts fabricated that will allow me to mount the seat as low as possible and as far back as I need (very far) - though this will mean giving up any easy adjustment, ie the seat will only be movable if you get your spanners out.

My plan is to only use the bucket seat for track days and the like - the rest of the time I will use the standard seat, so i don't think the lack of easy adjustment will matter.

I have a GT3 seat in my 993tt using Brey Krause brackets and Sparco sliders. Short of going to no sliders I don't think I could lower it any further. That said I've just done 3000 miles in 5 weeks and never moved the seat fore and aft once so maybe I'll try that.

They are Sparco sliders.

I do plan to go to no sliders, but to have mounts custom made so I can actually set the seat far enough back, which isn't possible with normal mounts/brackets.
