Please help? just had a big service 43,000 ml. Been parked for a day and now it starts, JUST, but miss fires & cuts out after a few hundred yards!!!!!!!!! Trying to make a ferry tomorrow and dare not set off???

I had this after a big service and it was cam timing...could be wrong though...

Where did you get the service done?(cryptically of course)

Have you had a lot of rain (only ask because it has been sheeting it down here for the last couple of days), it could be that you have got moisture in coil pack or somewhere (amateur diagnosis from VERY amateur person when it comes to under bonnet things). Did it drive back from the service ok?

Thanks for reply. Big service at Hexham HC main dealer who have looked after the car from new.

Car drove back great after service last Friday and OK until this evening and yes it has been sheeting down here

I would get busy with the WD40 and also check big fuse just as matter of course. Also check all the plug leads are back on securely each end.

Thanks, gone to locate the WD etc I'm a novice with this car but learning all the time!!!!!!! Will let you know the outcome. If we miss the ferry its LOOK OUT HEXHAM HC.

OK so which is the BIG FUSE?????????? got lots in there.

*Cam timing ?
*Lambda sensors)?
*Plugs (quick clean with a wire brush)?
My car had all of these as a problem and the most recent missfire being a plug lead that werent held on right!

I had the same after a big service. found 2 plug leads weren't pushed home. sometimes it was fine others it would miss. that would be my first check.

No luck with the WD 40, think it may be a timing fault, confused by the term Big Fuse, can you clarify please?

Never come across it myself yet as I have never looked for it, but I believe it is sat towards the rear of the engine under the battery cover and between the 2 banks of the engine. It is a large flat bladed type fuse. I'm sure someone else will come along with a more accurate description of its location soon.

If its been driving fine all week since the service, its unlikely to be Cam timing. If its been pi***ng down with rain I'll bet you that is the problem. Rain drips off the rear engine cover right onto where the coil packs are, and the coild packs have a nice little lip that s prefect for holding water.
If your going to the ferry tomorrow, take it out for a drive NOW - get it hot, do at least 20 miles and burn that water off, drive it through the roughness and it should get better as it gets hot, just keep driving it till its better - and enjoy your trip.

Thanks, were going for it your tip on driving through it seems to work but just picked up and been shot by a camera!!!!!!!!!!!! Well it could be worse.

Coil packs are a common weakness, they crack around the corners of the casing. Get a torch between the V towards the bulk head (they are in front of the big fuse)have a good look round.

You would thought a service agent may have spotted that though

and i second thoughts on HT leads, they are a pig to seat properly....

If its been fine all week then its very unlikely cam timing. Does your MIL light come on?
