can anyone give an idea on what excessive speed you could expect to dine on porridge at Her majesty's pleasure in the uk ...or france
with a previous clean license
Imprisonment isn't an option for the offence of speeding in the UK.
So if I did 190MPH on a dual carriageway, no porridge? I thought the option is there for a charge of DD, or reckless driving (that still exist?). Dont they have a prison term as an option?

Being charged with DD etc is going to be dependent on factors other than just the speed. There isn't a set speed that you'll be charged with dangerous driving. As such for the question of a "speeding offence alone" there is no imprisonment option.
Dangerous driving does carry a custodial option (summary max 6 months, indictment max 2 years).

So this biker was not really jailed for 28 days then for 157mph ?

They were charged with & convicted of dangerous driving. That's what the custodial offence was for.

Speeding, using a mobile phone, reading a map, eating, drink-driving, plus many others incidents, could all be considered as dangerous and/or careless driving.
For careless and inconsiderate driving there is a £2,500 maximum fine (the government currently wants to raise this to £5,000). Disqualification is at the court's discretion and it can impose penalty points.
do you have any figures for France ?
really what i am getting at ..............stupidly first time driving in France ...i went straight onto the motorway ..dry and clear saw the signs for 130 and thought great make up some time here
errr...135 mph ..
mate told me afterwards you could do time for this in France.

Dangerous driving (careless doesn't carry a custodial sentence) requires the court to find that the driving is:-
i) far below the standard required of a careful and competent driver (ie the Highway Code) and
ii) that driving in that manner would be obvious to a careful and competent driver that would be dangerous
Typically the opinion of a careful and competent driver is taken to be an ADI.
In addition, to get some of her majesty's porridge you'll need the mag's or judge to decide that only a custodial sentence will do. Killing someone's a pretty good way to do this, elevating yourself a section of the Act, but really extreme aggravating behaviour and lack of remorse is another.
In practice, driving at 150+ is likely to get CPS interested in trying to get a DD charge to stick (even if you're a serving Trafpol...). Much less if you are in a busy area in the rain, using your mobile.
