First trip to Le Mans
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm finally getting around to organising a trip to Le Mans after promising I'd do it for the last 10 years.
I know I'm a bit late on booking the best sites etc. so what is the general concensus regarding time of travel, camp sites, ticket booking etc. etc.
I'm possibly organising a group of three cars (all Le Mans virgins) so any pointers would be good!

Time of travel.
Up to you really.
Drive down Wed./back Mon. for a nice relaxing week drinking beer in the sun.
Drive down Thurs. for more exotica on the road and still reasonable easy getting space to set up camp.
Drive down Fri. to save holiday but don't expect to find a large open space to set up camp.
Drive back Sun. if (one of) you have no holiday/like falling asleep at the wheel/didn't want to see then finish/like spending 3 hours in a traffic jam.
Drive back Mon. if you want to relax/didn't expect to find any open shops on a Monday in France anyway.
Also remember that the likely-hood of getting done for speeding is directly proportional to how direct your route is and how close to the race. Speed on the Calais->Le Mans motorway route on Friday if you WANT to get caught. Go earlier/back roads if you don't.

Hi Groomi,
It is well worth making your first trip. I'm sure it won't be your last having experienced the event.
It is no where near as big as the other sites, but might give you ideas, give my site a try aswell - www.lemans24.piczo.com.
Hope you decide to give Le Mans a go.

depends how long you want to stay for, how much you want to budget and how close you want to be in the action.
we did a week, on the cheap and a quiet campsite.
Last year was our first year, and I dont think we can beat it, but we'll have a bloody good try!!

Shame I missed the GT40s
I wasn't born then
Looks like I'll just have to outlive you

Me neither!! Norman D - your first Le Man was 7 years before I was born! You trully are a Jedi!!

Another good source of info from many LM veterans is to be found at Club Arnage.
