Why? I have never understood why people buy performance cars and load the things down with the equivalent of a passenger with kit that could never match a good home system.

Each to their own, plus the Commodore isn't exactly an Elise in the first place

Why not?
I enjoy my Kenwood ICE system, at £10k it will outperform the home system (basically NAD CD amp & tuner, Tanoy spkrs, Pioneer MD etc c £1800) and is clear, crisp & defined even at 100+, capable of drowning out road, engine & wind noise too when the drone of high speed motoring gets boring. Yes I realise the weight penalties, especially with two marine batteries on board but what the hell. If performance is everything then the car is too lardy in weight terms to start with and you should never carry passengers, run with only 5 litres of fuel, leave the spare at home etc., never been interested in 0-60 times, just like ample power from 80 mph and not found a car that can stay with me past 100 so I don't feel too compromised on weight.
