Stuck in 5th - help wanted

Approaching work and suddenly I cannot select any gears.

Clutch pedal is still as stiff as normal.

Any suggestions ??

Thank God the engine has got enough torque to pull away from the lights in 5th otherwise I would be waiting for the AA man to arrive.

Does the gear stick still move?

Maybe something with the linkage?

I have spoken to Offord who confirmed the same and if I can get the car out of the basement carpark tonight, I can cruise home on the M11 and then drop it off @ Offord later.

Cruise home in 5th?

I know the V8 is fairly torquey but that'll be tricky.

I'm not worried about the cruising - after all, I got up to 140mph on the M11 coming in this morning.

What is really worrying is having to go up the very steep ramps and round the sharp corners from basement level 3 of the carpark in 5th.

Perhaps it would be best if I got the AA to recover it instead ?

Good idea, i believe 5th can be a bit weak so the extra stress wont help it much!

THat's what I meant, the cruise bit would be fine but you need to get to the M-way first!

Driving slowly in fifth gear you'll have to slip the clutch a lot and you'll put a hell of a lot of wear on it. Maybe that doesn't bother you if you're expecting to take the 'box out anyway, but if it turns out to be just a link disconnected on the outside you're going to feel a bit of a berk if you end up needing a new clutch.
