My chimaera has been a reliable steed over the last 4 years but has now developed a water loss / hot running problem. I am praying that it is just a head gasket leak between the no2 (front right) cylinder and the water gallery. I'll get the head off on Monday and find out. If its not the gasket I think I might have a 'porous liner' which will mean an engine out job. How much do i have to take off the front of the engine to get it out? i.e pullies / water pump etc.
Any help /advice much appreciated.

Bonnet off, front crossmember removed, (and radiator for safety), and thats all you need, the pulleys and exhaust headers can stay on the car.

The moor you take off in the car the easier it is going to be to remove the engine. Take the 'Y' section out and then remove the bolted in cross brace that sits betweeen the exhaust and the pulleys (4 bolts). That should give you more than enough room to remove the engine without taking anything off!

Blimy that was quick. Hadn't thought of removing the x-member. Releaved to hear I don't have to remove the LH manifold. the RH one was a bugger to get off. Had to grind down a ring spanner to get it on top rear stud.
Thanks for advice, hopfully I wont have to follow it!!!
