A28 or N138!!!!??
Discussion
This year being the first chance to try out the new stretch of the A28, we of course gave it a spin on the way down. Great road, great tarmac!! But oh so boring, so much so, by the time we reached the ring road round Le Man, I could feel my eyes dropping after an early start and ferry crossing.
The journey home?
The good old N138!! And we loved it!! We had a great drive back, fast drive, country roads, passenger as my eyes over-taking, no sign of any police (well, for us anyway), all the familiar nice local villages.
If quick arrival is important than of course the new road is great but for what I'm sure for many is all part of the experiance, the drive to and from Le Man, for us anyway will continue from now on, past Rouen to be the N138!!

I would tend to agree that the N138 has to be the best choice on the way down, but in my experience this year I left Calais around 7AM, and got past Rouen just after 9 (bad rain slowed me down). The N138 was slightly busy, and without a powerful car to overtake traffic quickly, it was a real drag...
The A28 sucks donkey balls.

ting Gendarmes severly pissed me off. Twats have got a lot to answer for if you ask me. Saw a lot of them on the way down.
Took the N138 back, saw 1, who was talking to a coach driver. Just my luck after being banned the one time I decided to go a bit faster than the limit there was a

we ended up coming down the A28 in the end, took a leisurely drive on the back roads but after a break down, near accident and some appaling weather we realised we still had hours to go so jumped on the A28 to speed things up a little bit
came back via the N138 to begin with though, then stuck to the boring autoroutes and had to keep pulling over to stock up on dark dog - the unsung member of this years trip. like red bull but doesn't taste of fermented donkey piss!

Is it true that Red Bull is banned in france after some nutter somewhere overdosing on a nights tipple of vodka / red bull or something?
But they have many identical energy drinks with slightly more dodgy sounding names!
I'm also concerned littlegearl, that you are quite the authority on stages of donkey piss fermentation!!

Sprite 3G for me, tastes exactly the same as Sprite.
N138 on the way down A28 the way back. I'd rather cruise than warp speed it on the way back so the Genydarneries don't bother me.
