Why do so many rally drivers wear open face helmets? From what I've seen, most competitors in closed top circuit racing cars wear full face helmets, so why do rally drivers risk a smack in the face? The only thing I could think of is that rally drivers need a wider field of vision but wouldn't a motorcycle-style wide visor provide that?

As a co-driver, an open face helmet is pretty much a must, as it's nearly impossible to look down at the notes with a full face one on.
My driver wears an open face as well as he finds it makes him sweat less!!

Hadn't thought of that.

A lot of rally drivers wear closed-faced helmets too. Personal preference, I guess.
