What about the ones on s/c roads? If you're overtaking as you go through one of the sets of cameras...? (Overtaking the invisible milk float if necessary hehe)

My reading of it is that you must exit the Specs area in a different lane than you entered. if you just overtake and then pull back into the same lane the average speed reading counts.

Hi Chalky wavey, what a great spot!

I wonder who will be the first to put this to the test.

I haven't had anything in the post since the "Limehouse Link Incident", hope you and Jay are also still in the clear.

Cheers

Watch the rules change in short order...

And absolutely but everyone ensuring they change lanes as they approach a SPECS camera.

Nobody should be caught by fixed cameras of any kind these days. Given that they are easy to spot. Its the evil blighters on the M4 near Swindon with their Sunday morning Scamera Van you've really got to watch out for.

Would you believe my 79 year old mother just got her first speeding ticket.

The world is changing. We now make important that which can be measured, rather than measuring that which is important.

I've used this tactic for years in the expectation that it MAY work, on the basis that SPECS usually look like they are angled towards the outside lane. Having said that, I've only used the tactic in conjunction with trying to stay vaguely close to the limit through SPECS areas too.

I tend to think that lane 1 is (even before considering Highway Code) the lane to be in, because Scamera vans are more likely to be pointing their equipment at lane 3 (where there is one) if trying to scam people indiscriminately.

A detailed study by the Transport Research Laboratory showed that motorway roadworks with GATSOs or SPECS were less safe than those without caneras, so why are speedcams still use in such roadworks at all, when safety is shown to be compromised? Driver interactive signals cost the taxpayer far less and have proven safety bvenefits.

Oh yes I remember now, it's not about safety.

Reading that report it looks like it needs to be a 2 lane hop. So on approaching the camera zip to the inside lane, pass camera, zip to outside lane, then continue moving backwards and forwards until there are no more cameras.

This is going to be interesting. Anything I can do to minimise the chances of getting a ticket I will surely do. Even if I dont speed through the SPECS system I dont trust any speed camera system so anything I can add to my driving to help avoid a ticket is good news !

Truly unbelievable! It would appear the technology is capable, just disallowed for now.
So when will they sneakily close that loophole? perhaps when people have gotten used to changing lanes to evade the things? Don’t bet your license of something you won’t know about, far better to tailgate a truck when entering/leaving so the cam can’t see your plate at all!

What about zones with more than 2 SPECS cameras, say a two lane motorway, you would have to change back to your original lane for the third camera – would it still get you?

Indeed.

Note what the weasel said, just to "scare" us: "...He still claimed - without spelling out any detail - that this loop-hole was not actually foolproof and that some of those who attempt to use it will still face a speeding prosecution..."

MMMmmm suuuure. laugh

Type approval is for specific pairs only so you get dead zones:

With a four camera installation: A B C D, it can measure speed from A-B and C-D but NOT from B-C. And certainly not from A-C nor A-D nor B-D.

I think the ambiguity is that the target area for camera A isn't necessarily exactly just one lane -- ie one camera pair A-B can capture a little more than a single lane.

What about the old square numberplate loophole? Rumour has it the optical character recognition system requires all the characters in one line.

True or false?
