Guy who works for me was caught on the Stirling/Dumbarton Road near Fairfield Farm heading towards Stirling, 74 in a 60 so probably 3 points and 60.

He now remembers passing a polis van parked in a layby but as his detector never went off (possibly a single beep) he just thought the van was broken down

Anyone have an idea what it was that would have got him?

Anyone have a clue as to how his RLD didn't go off (Bel Euro 550)?

Also what a scummy place to put a trap. No houses or any residential areas for miles (literally) and it's pretty much a straight, clear road for miles, how the can they justify a trap there.

Ya know, ive seen a fair few reports on here now of detectors not going off etc.
Ive had a scout round the net and there appears to be a new type of radar out in the US.
I was thinking maybe theyre using this on us?
Basically it works by switching frequency so fast that a normal detector cant pick up the frequency used, kind of a phased frequency shift technique.

Any new system of speed measurement must have been granted Home Office Type Approval before it can be used in law enforcement in the UK.

Does the detector sit behind a heated windscreen? If so the heater elements will block the radar signal and the device will not work.

I saw an Omega estate on the A52 a couple of days ago, right in the middle of the countryside on a lovely twisty road, just over the crest of a hill. It had a new-to-me camera fix-mounted on the back of the car above the rear door (to the right as you look at it), now Dibble doesn't even have to get wet to catch speeders!

Good job it was 10:00am and I was stuck behind one of the many lorries on that road, 5:00am would have been a different story!

If he saw it, WTF didn't he slow down a bit until he'd passed it?

lesson: _never_ put too much faith in technology!

If it was Laser (which a lot of them are nowadays) then it is quite possible that no light hit his detector at all (they tend to aim for the numberplate).
He could think about getting a jammer & siting the emitter next to the numberplate.

Do jammers work then? Where can you get them?
