Armourfend - Pros & Cons

The obvious con is the line across the bonnet and the pro, presumably, less stone chips. Do I get it or not??

I wouldn't bother - 'Law of Sod' says the biggest stone will miss the film all together or if it hits will go right through! Selective resprays will cost you less in the end, IMHO.

I had armourfend on my last car, a Lotus Elise (again fibreglass). To be honest, unless you can armourfend the entire front all the way up to the windscreen it's not worth it. You just end up getting stonechips on the parts that are not covered, and then it's costly to remove, respray and re-armourfend.

Just put the money aside for a respray at a later date.

Mine had armourfend when I bought it. It has protected the front clam very well. After the line where it stops at the bottom of the front clam, there were quite a few small chips. Instead of a complete respray, all I had to get done was the very small area below the armourfend line. Much cheaper and looks good. When I have it taken off eventually, the theory is that the paintwork below should be as it was when new.

Thanks guys. One pro and three cons seems to suggest I don't bother.
I must admit I do hate the line it leaves across the middle of the front clam but I also hate a pockmarked view of stonechips as well. How often do those of you without have to get the front clam resprayed to hide the unsightly chips and how much does that cost?

Have to see how much it costs to fit and more importantly how much of an added delay it puts on me getting the car

Actually not a simple answer as some paint jobs came out of SA very thin/watery meaning they were more prone to chipping than others so it depends on the individual car. Mine seems very solid, after 12,000 miles with many high-speed (but within the law!) roadruns and a few track days nothing excessive just a nasty stone-chip above where the Armorfend line WOULD have been if I';d have had it fitted!

Peter, if you hate stone chips then get something to protect the rear wheel arches - I'm sure someone on here will remind us of price and availability.
