Hi All,

I met up a friend last month and we managed to get a pretty interesting run between our two cars.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPppW6rKKLU

We ran from low 2nd gear about 2500rpm. I asked JV if i could get the jump, i believe that this was worth 1.5 seconds or so.

Its interesting to see just how much faster the new 3,8 Ruf engine is, the difference is just huge the faster you go (5th gear+). When the car just goes into overdrive.

This car has the new Ruf 3,8l engine, which develops 650bhp, which is extremely conservative. It makes 870NM of torque.

Also JVs car had a minor fuel mapping problem which as now been sorted, but the car limited the revs in 2nd gear which is why you can hear the rev limiter cut in, this was at 5500rpm

hope you enjoy!

Very impressive...

Can't believe how much the ground the new car makes !!!!

How usable is this kind of power on the track (not the ring BTW), or are they just bahn stormers ?

I drove that car earlier in the evening, and its power delivery was very similar to ours. Very smooth linear and torquey. However above 6000rpm there is just this sledgehammer punch of power that is absolutely incredible...

With 4wd i think the car is very useable (especially if you short shift at 5000rpm)

We have the 550,

I think a 590 would have held on to the lead for maybe 3 more seconds. There isnt a considerable difference in performance between the two, though of course there is one...

nice vid

there's also a link to RUF vs CL65 AMG

www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSULd2eVWfI&NR

what strikes me about this is the lack of engine noise. claimed both cars topped out at over 180 but where was the drama??

That looked like a VMax run at Bruntingthorpe, was it you Adam in the red Ruf?

ETA: there's also one with a "Gillardo" vs E55 - but you'll need night goggles, an IR screen and adaptive optics

It only gets dramatic at 200mph In these cars 180mph is a walk in the park, seriously Also it is hard to replicate accurately speeds with a camera, especially with amateur setups.

Fair comment Adam but you are too used to flying Ruf's - it is only fair to report that it is not until you have been in one doing these numbers that the "drama" of the event becomes (very) evident. Softinthehead -Come along to Vmax and cadge a lift sometime and you will see what I mean!

I've been a passenger in some very fast Jap stuff, but Rods giving it the full moo in his 996 was as dramatic as I ever want to get in a car with another chap lol. Video's don't compare to being there.

Glad you enjoyed Gaz,wait till next Vmax plenty more to come.........

I daren't watch it.

There is little doubt that with £250 large to dispense with in one, banzai leap of wongdacious VAT insurrection, the RT12 mit 650 brake would be the only possible destination for the requisite suitcase of illicit folding.

However, being a law abiding citizen where tax mainatins scum comme moi to the peripheral wastelands of mediocrity, one can only freeze, in spellbound rapture, automotive wazzer in hand, as this gumpfest of krautonic perfection brunwerks through Asgard, wishing all the while for immortality and a differing reality where Gordon Brown was in fact renamed Gecko.

DeR, wouldn't you rather have a Carrera GT for that? I know it's not quite as quick in a stright line, but it's a miles more exotic I'd say.

The pic below is / was phatgixer's 65 AMG with upward of 700 lb ft iirc.

The experience of an emergency start and then hitting nearly 180 at Bruntingthorpe was amazing, with the roof down and the day's F1 GP race on-screen just in case the passenger got bored hehe

New perm and set required afterwards - combover passengering not advised

However the bit that really amazed for a heavy car like that was the twisties at the end, those things have enough unobtrusive driver aids of the highest calibre to allow the damn thing to take corners at insane speeds when the driver knows the limits. Carrera S twisty salvation? No cigar I fear, that is an extremely accomplished veehickle. Take a drive in one and want one forever - in addition to forced induction Ruf Porsche of course.
