Does anyone here have tinted windows?
Discussion
I think my nice black sportscar would look nicer with tinted windows, but I'm wondering whether they might get annoying on a long-term basis, what with having to see out and all
Just wondering what people thought was the best balance between looking good and looking where you're going. Is it normal to tint the windscreen as well or is that a no-no?
Can anyone recommend a good fitter in the North Herts area?

i think the windscreen has to be totally free of tinted film, though it may be allowed a light tint of the glass, slight green or blue colour perhaps.
the side (drivers and passenger door) windows are only allowed a light tint, but the rear side window and rear window itself are allowed to be VERY tinted, like 'see out can't see in'
i will reply in a week about living with tinted windows as my mums new car which has smoked rear side and rear windows should be here on wednesday...

Most cars nowadays come with tinted windows, however I assume your looking at the drug dealer /politician /3rd world dictator blacked out windows?
I've heard there is a company in London called Pentagon which a mate used getting his BMW "sorted", all of his quotes seemed a bit bloody pricey for my liking though.

you are NOT allowed to tint the windscreen, you may however have a "sun strip" at the top of your windscreen but the length of that is determind by the size of your windscreen, ie only a percentage is allowed to be covered
The rest of the car you cant tint at will but there is a limit to how dark you can have it....

My Misses got the windows on her Overfinch Discovery blacked out, dark blue car, dark grey alloys and blacked out windows, it looks the dogs b@llocks. I feel like a gangsta in it.
Everybody here is right, front windscreen no tint allowed then your tint can get progressively harsher as you go back, on the rear passenger door and rear three quaters my misses had 30% put in so you can hardly see in. Any good pro fitter will advise you on this.
To get my wife's dico done (thats 9 windows in total) cost £300 at a professional fitters took about half a day, and they picked the car up and dropped it back off.
Seeing out isn't to bad, and at night it makes a great difference, the headlights of cars behind hardly dazzle at all now.

I have smoked tints on the side windows and rear window of my black MX-5 and in my opinion looks superb. It is not a particularly dark tint and just makes the car subtly different. Well worth doing in my opinion but make sure you get a reputable professional to do it. Can't say I even notice a difference now driving at night with the windows tinted. Is the car a convertible?

cool!!! does that mean as my car was registered in 1978 i can have the front doors windows really smoked do, then it really will look like a pimp-mobile!!!
ok guy,s
yes I have, "16" has tinited glass.
now, this is what I have found
1> dark tints are great during the day and shite and dangerous at night.
2> I removed the limo black from mine and replace it with smoke or grey light (??) thats enuf, gives it that slighlt obsured look but easy enuf to see thriough
3> 75% of light sounds rioght to me
4> windscreen, top strip yes, full tint no
5> it it comes with a factory tint, thats legal
6> Limo (drug dealer/paddy waggon) black, I have been told is not legal on road cars but is legal on Limo's, so you'll need to check.

Take it from me dont get the limo tint on the front side windows as you won't see a thing at night. Go for something like a smoke which is still dark but you can see out.

I'd love to get my windows tinted but searches on the web have yielded nothing (amazingly). Anyone know where I can get my windows sorted professionally? ....or can I take it to any old garage or Autoglass or somewhere and they'll do it (and not laugh me out the showroom). I'm in South Bucks by the way.
Sorry for a dumb question but I've no idea where you get this done.....I'm thinking of getting my Explorer tinted, not the Chimaera incidentally!
Cheers all,
Andy

Thanks for all the replies guys
What level of tint is this do you reckon? Would it be legal? Crucially, do you think it looks good?

(Mines like this but black and with a normal silver wheel finish, not chromed.)

its really very easy, as long as you follow the following rules,
1> take your time
2> follow all instructions completley
3> take your time
4> most kits (ripspeed ??) have everything you need
5> take your time
6> dont apply when windy
7> take your time !
Windscreen and any window wholly or partially either side of the driver's head (the two front windows in most cars) need to allow at least 70% of light through. The rest can be as black as you like. All SVA test stations have little squares of sample glass made up to 30% tint so they can hold them up next to the glass and compare them. 30% isn't that much more than the average "tinted" windscreen.

Hereafter renamed as numpty!!! There is a company called pentagon or something like that who post in Land Rover Owner and do a classy job.
Rememnber though, smoked glass looks cool, black glass makes you look like a poohead!!! Its very simple, but you'd be aamazed how many people get it wrong....
