Supercharged flatspot
Discussion
You guys came up with some help last time i posted looking for a 993 turbo, so wonder if you can help again. Got feed up looking at rough 993 turbos so I've bought a 993 S. 9m have put a supercharger on it and I'm gettin 360bhp but a big flat spot in torque between 3000 and 4500 rpm. The problem is the kit from TPC was designed for their market and they didnt get a 55 pin ecu 97 varioram. So their software maybe needs remapping. TPC dont want to know and 9m are coming up a blank. I want to stay with the bolt on bolt off idea so I dont want to modify my original parts. Any suggestions or any ideas or who might be able to help ?
Cheers

This is oe of the reasons I took mine off - it felt quite fluttery at about 4k, plus another problem with hesitation. That said most people seem happy with them. The chap who bought mine seems to love it as do others, so I am guessing these things can be sorted. I did find Colin v helpful, but I feared several Warrington trips to sort it out and opted for the simpler thing which was to take it off.
Hope you get it sorted

The TPC kit IIRC uses the standard ECU map but with a piggyback ECU and 7th injector that adds extra fuel as necessary.
Was your car re-mapped before you supercharged it? That could cause the odd running.
Alternatively, the 9m guys will be able to remap the existing ECU for you on the rolling road. I'd go for that option as you'd be assured that the mixture is correct across the rev range and you're never running too lean (with subsequent potential for engine damage).
To be honest, all 'bolt-on' kits are compromised since each engine has different tolerances / wear, etc. - the best bet is to get it remapped once you've added the tuning parts.
Hope you get it sorted, the charger is a great conversion (I absolutely love mine) - getting my other car supercharged as well

^^ agreed, seems a tad odd given that I'm sure that 9m offer a remapping service for the supercharged car. There are a couple of the supercharged crew on PH who have had live remaps from 9m - Richard has 400 bhp or thereabouts with a remapped charged 993 engine, and I'm sure that James S's car had a 9m map before he took the supercharger off...

Thanks for the info. The chip is original. Colin feels he's into it for too much already. He stuck to the original quote dispite putting about twice the time. So any remapping is down to me. I'd prefere not to remap my ECU as I may want to take the blower to my next 911. My only idea is to pick up a used ECU and get that remapped but I've been quoted anywhere from £300 to £1000. I'm into this now for close to £10000 so I'm trying not to spend much more, I'm skint. Colin has said he remap the unichip if he gets the software but TPC are not letting it go and unichip in South Africe wont either. Last option is for 9M to become a Unichip dealer but that might take more time. Can anyone recomend an outfit to remap ?
Kennyboy, I work shifts but I'm sure I'll have a day to show you the car. drop me an e mail with a day that suits you. I'm off weekends in October but I get drunk early on a Saturday !!

Can you not "save" the original map and then re-write it to the orignal ECU if you want to remove the blower at some future date? (To be clear I honestly don't know if this is possible, but would like to know as I'm considering a re-map for my NA 993.)
I realise this doesn't address the cost problem, but I would have thought after £10K another £3-500 would be ... well .. bearable.
The bottom line is that we would remap the car for free if we had the Unichip shoftware, but we cannot get it from TPC, Unichip North America, Unichip South Africa (head office) or Unichip UK (because they do not have this system in the UK). I have offered to have the existing ecu remapped at cost price.
I think you are going to have to bite the bullet on this. There is little point doing all the work and compromising the output for the sake of a remap or a second hand ECU + a remap. The alternative is that the car is likely todrive you mad as mine did.
I am happy with my car now, but with hindsight I probably should have let Colin try to fix the two niggles I had and then lived with it for a bit to see the real potencial of supercharging

If you are in for 10k, you may as well spend the rest to get it working properly. i.e. get it remapped. I'm sure they can download the original map for reinstatement later, and given you don't have a Porsche warranty there is no issue on that front. Piggy back ecus aren't ideal anyway, but then again I don't think popping in an extra injector is optimal either.

Thanks fellas, think you're all right. I'm going to give 9m some more time then think about remaping. Has anyone just swapped chips instead of the whole ECU? I've actually got a second hand chip but not the ECU. Can anyone recomend an outfit to remap?
Why do you need to swap chip? Can't the ECU be reflashed in situ, which will be infintely preferable as it will be a map designed around your car.

Problem solved!!
No way around the software issue therefore laptop is on its way from TPC to 9m so that we can remap the digibox on our Dyno for UK conditions, then have a file available for the UK/European market.

Hmmmm - mine appears to work fine though only 320-330 bhp.... does that mean you'll now have a new map that makes the engine even smoother and more responsive??? I'd be interested to hear if you do.
