*drool* ty.

Only spotted it on an off chance browse in WHSmiths and read it, mostly because Ive been looking for one for the last month! As the 997tt date gets closer Ive been having ever increasing doubts about it and thoughts of my last encounter with a proper old school turbo have been comming more and more to the fore, to the pt where I have been actively scouting for a 3.6. Only trouble is Im not sure what I would do if I found what I wanted!
Anybody else have similar hankerings?

I did the same, but you have to pay £40k ish for good a one, thats if you can actually find a really nice example. Also when you drive one you suddenly realise how far Porsches have developed over time. The gap betweeen a 993 to 996/997 is big but the gap between a modern 911 and the 964/965 is massive.I still think the turbo 2 is one of the best looking porsches ever and would love to have one as an occassional use car but ive yet to find a mint example.

The 3.6's are so iconic. Hopefully going to be in the market for one early next year. Still however deciding whether I prefer that or a 993tt.

Funnily enough there was a guy on sttutgart 9's in the same position as you. Had got a 997tt found it a bit dull so sold it and searched for a turbo 3.6 - never found a nice one and gave up looking !!

No your definately not,but they do feel very industrial compared to modern cars so drive a few before you buy..

It's a great car, but having driven a 997tt recently you can't compare them. You'd think you were driving a Model T after the 997. I'd really like to keep it just to look at it, but impending helicopter purchase forces reluctant sale.

Well I have to agree that the 965 3.6 turbo is the very last of the proper turbocharged 911's. I am biased of course as I have owned mine since 1998, I am the 3rd owner, the car is mint both inside and out with 49K miles. She's non metallic black with black leather piped red and as far as I have been able to establish from Porsche Cars she is the only UK supplied car in this spec of the forty two sold.
I have toyed with parting with her but then what can you replace her with. The build quality is superb, you still smell the leather when you open the door and she's quick. With the geometry re-adjusted, an h&r spring kit, some different tyres she handles extremely well even in the wet. She does not have four wheel drive or pasm etc, etc. but for me and the majority of my friends that is an advantage and not a disadvantage. I personally prefer cars that you have to learn to master rather than buying a car and relying on electronic wizardry to sought it all out for you. In the end it makes you a much more capable driver. If you can find one then buy it. Prices will only go up.

The more I read this thread the more:

A) I want a 3.6T over the 997tt
and
B) I keep beating myself up over not buying the 3.3 Turbo S lwt I had the chance of buying 3yrs ago.

About 2 years ago I passed up on a metallic grey one 47k miles for £33.5k and brought a 996c4 instead - really regretted that !

IIRC there was very recently a black one on autotrader with low miles but was £42k which I think is at least £5k too much - guessing it is still available ?

Not wishing to rid myself of a sales opportunity, but if you're unsure between a 965 and a 997tt, why not buy a 996 GT2. They are the ultimate, and a good compromise between the two.

3.6 T2's are of course very rare and you will have great difficulty finding one.
The 3.3 is very similar and can easily be modded to match the 3.6 on looks and performance (and many already have). So if you don't need the ultimate exclusivity of the 3.6 badge a 3.3 will open up some possibilities.

PS: Finding a good 3.3 is also hard!
