If I have aload of .avi files on a spare hard drive, what do I need to do to be able to burn these to a DVD and watch these on a DVD player. Please assume I have no technical knowledge and you won't be far off the mark!

Also, does anyone know whether video iPods are able to cope with .avi movies?

Search under. Format Conversion - "AVI to DVD" there are different ways to do it using both free software and commercial software.

Do you have a Mac?

If so import AVI's to iMovie, assemble clips into a 'movie' if necessary, under Share on the toolbar select iDVD to get onto DVD or iPod to get it onto iPod.

If you don't have a Mac I can't help!

5th generation iPods use MP4 video in a .MP4/.MOV file format. No AVI as far as i am aware.

MPlayer is one of the best media converts around, it's a little hardcore though (command line interface for MEncoder) - but converts just about anything to anything.

As previously mentioned there are a number of programs that do this. One of the easiest I have found is Nero, just click on make DVD movie insert your AVI files then click on burn to disk. It takes quite a long time to convert the files depending on the size of the AVI's but results are ok.

There are a lot of other ways involving freeware or shareware but these take a lot of explaining and are pretty involved.
