Never knew that existed..! You learn something useful every day.
Still can't get VNC to work, when another office tries to log in it says "no matching security something or other"?
I have a Belkin Router and have set the firewall and tried to change the port thingy to allow access, does anyone have first hand knowledge of what I have done wrong?
Sorry to be such a numpty!

Are you saying you've opened the port AND forwarded the port?
The address you tell the router to forward to isn't the one returned by whatsmyip.com

I think so, opened port, added for both TCP and UDP forwarded to individual machine IP found thru ipConfig.
No joy?

That's your authentication method by the sound of it... That is VNC choosing not to accept a connection so your port forwarding sounds correctly configured.I have a Belkin Router and have set the firewall and tried to change the port thingy to allow access, does anyone have first hand knowledge of what I have done wrong?

Can't you type ipconfig in the run box and that gives it to you? I just tried it but the dos window closes straight away after opening for some reason.
Start > Run > cmd then run ipconfig /all. That only works if you're directly conneected to the net however. As this one is behind a router it'll only give the local IP address, not the external one.

Thats really strange, it keeps closing as soon as the dos prompt opens. Somebody obviously doesn't want me to know.

Are you definitely opening a command prompt, as per BliarsGoing's instructions?
If you do Start - Run - ipconfig, then you'll get exactly what you're seeing, i.e. a dos prompt opening and closing straight away
If you do Start - Run - cmd and then run ipconfig from there, it should work...

I think I must be under a firewall or something as the ip address given by that site at the top appears different to the one listed in DOS.
yep your router is the firewall. all you should need to do is set the port forwarding on your router to the IP address you found in DOS. And then tell the VNC service the IP address you found from whatsmyip
edited to add VNC config page for Belkin:

I don't have access to a router at the moment, I just connect to the wall through my halls of residence connection, the router is somewhere out of my control.
Is that stuff you said above for wireless access? Would it speed up a potential slow wireless connection? AS I'm getting a really slow connection at home even though the signal strength is excellent.

does going to 192.168.2.1 not get you to the router config? or is the router administered by someone else?
Must be administered by someone else.
