A friend of mine was pulled over for speeding over Christmas by an unmarked police car, He was told his speed was too high to be given the standard 3 points and a fine and that it would have to be passed on, I presume to the procurator fiscal. However he still hasn't heard anything is this normal to take so long to hear anything back?

what was he doing ?

I think

1) speed limit + 10% + 3 is ok
1a) however in theory you can be done for doing 1 mph over the speed limit, depends how anal the pig ... ermm copper is

2) point 1 > but < 98mph = is 3 points, possibly with dangerous driving

3) 98+ usually goes to court regardless,

4)100+ wave goodbye to your license unless of course your royality, a copper, cop driver, chief constable, richard and judy, or some other important person who simply "has to" have a car for work !

Yes. Depending on where you are it can take up to 6 months or so. Central Scotland is about 3-4 months, so you/he should be hearing something soon.

Had the same thing happen to me a long while ago (52 in a 30 along Haggs road before they built the M77 extension) and still got the standard points and fine.

I beleive that between 25 and 30 mph over the limit is when you are reported to the CPs rather than given a fixed penalty.

Try the speeding fourum for info, lots of people on there know much more than I do on the subject

Which depends on how much of a tosser the driver stopped is!

He was doing an average of 87mph in a sixty limit on the M8 going into a fifty. Any idea how many points and fine could be expected?

The car that pulled me over was a very nice black C-class by the way, very sneaky! To be fair the two officers were pretty reasonable. I was expecting the whole lecture on speeding and to be called irresponsible, then for them to scrutinise my car (since it is modifified). However they just took my details told me I would be hearing something soon and sent me on my way.
