Traficators? Legal??

hi,
I am wondering if anyone can shine some light on this for me,
The traficators on older cars (pre flasher) that pokes out of the b pillar?
Are they road legal, do you need flashers too, do you have to remove them or disconect them?

Plenty of cars / bikes with no indicators of the flashing variety, so don't see why trafficators would be illegal.

Understand before 1.1.1936 indicators not required.

After 1.4.85 wrap round indicators required.

Sempahores had to be amber to the front and rear and may or may not flash but did have to have a tell-tale to show when in operation.

Take it that was "not required to be fitted "

Otherwise i see a lot of pre 1936 taxis and buses round our way
