free dialup providers

[_dobbo_]

My broadband is currently fubar'ed at home, in the meantime I'm going to need some dial up access.

A few weeks back someone posted a thread asking for dialup access numbers and a load got posted in response. As search is down I can't seem to find this thread - can anyone point me in the right direction?

So how does that work then?

No such thing as a free lunch etc.

cant help with the list, but many of the ISP's have guest accounts for dial up - Newnet does (or at least did, haven't needed it for a while so cant be sure!)

Or try www.uku.co.uk/ who I've been told are good (Free use and cheap call rates while dialled in)

0845 6044026
username= anything
password= anything

user and password must contain some characters but doesn't matter what it is and cli must be on the line AFAIK

Or if the problem is at the isp end then ask them for an 0800 number, UKonline do that for me.

I suspect they earn a small amount per minute per call... If you get sufficient volume it can soon add up.

Yep, they get a volume kickback on 0845 calls.

Might be misunderstanding this but 0845 numbers are local rate charged calls - no?

So, although the service is free to register with and use, you're still being charged by BT for the connection. The call is therefore not free of charge.

Correct. 1p/3p per minute IIRC.

In that case I'll add;

www.names.co.uk/dial-up-internet-access.html

[malman]

free as in no monthly subscription charge not as in free 0800 nmuber

if anyone does know a no subscription 0800 isp I'd like the number thanks (especially if its not advert funded or requires some crappy dialer software thats more trouble than its worth etc)
