How big is the campsite at Karting Nord.

We had a group of 10 this year with tickets to Bleu Sud and when we got there on Thursday lunchtime there wasn't any room and we ended up in Beau se Jeur.

We've got a group of 14 next year and tickets reserved for Karting Nord. Are we likely to have the same trouble at Karting Nord if we arrive on Thursday lunchtime?

Thanks

Chris

We got there at around 5pm in 2005 and struggled to find a spot for 6 people (3 cars!)....

Hi Chris, when I got to Bleu Sud Thursday just after lunchtime there were people in one car looking for a place big enough for 10 people, and kindly let me pitch where they were as the space wasn't big enough for them. It wasn't you was it?

Hi Alex

I don't think so. We were in 5 cars so didn't even have the chance of giving up a space!

Are you going next year? Where are you staying?

Not stayed in Karting Nord, but walked through it from Houx to do some spectating from the roof of the karting center Sunday afternoon.

It was busy but didn't look over crammed, but from the looks of it the majority went to various organised tours - row upon row of identical little tents, in neat, ordered little rows...ughghgh. You will would probably have still had trouble finding space for a larger group on the Thursday though.

Just do the sensible thing - go down Wed!

Yes I will be going, I don't know where I will be staying yet... My finances don't allow me to plan that far, I will probably find some campsites tickets on eBay the week before, like I did this year... hehe

Am I being soft here?

Are you saying that if you have tickets for a certain site e.g. Karting Nord, and then turn up on Thursday avo, they actually won't let you in if they think it's full?

Maybe some "gentlemens agreement" needs to be made that us early birds who arrive on Wednesday reserve areas for PH'ers for Thursday. Bit cheeky and bound to get some hassles but might save a few folks the hike from Beausejour.

We take ten cars and twenty bods (minimum).
Le mans is that special weekend of the year when generally speaking, a lot of time and trouble is invested in ensuring that all goes as well as possible.
Why take the risk ?
We book with Airtrack and as a result pay a little more than the norm.
... but, we do enjoy our own prebooked and marked out pitch 25 metres by 16 metres, which remains available until we arrive, whenever we arrive.
Coupled with the bonus of clean loos/showers and an effective, secure perimeter fence we believe it represents good value for money.
So, why take the risk ?

cheers, d

Only one of the ACO camp sites (Houx) has reserved pitches. The others are first come, first camped.

Reserving space has to be handled with care - you do see people trying to impersonate Nazi Germany (the 1 car/van blitz-creigs on the the campsite on Tuesday and tries to annex a space the size of Poland for their friends who don't arrive till late Friday). If they have good spacial awareness it's OK, but normally they try to reserve a space big-enough for 8 cars and tents for 2 cars/tents.

Normally these people get sorted out by the masses - they make a fundimental mistake (such as going for more beer/to the toilet/to sleep) and come back to find their reserved fence somewhat shorted than it was and 18 tents where there used to be space.

I'd be well gutted if I turned up with a camping pass and then got turned away, how can they sell tickets and then not honour it? Those pesky French.

In HA this year there was a chained off area just inside the campsite which was empty until well into Thursday when a truck turned up and dumped a loads of tents, with 20+ cars not arriving until Friday.

Saving space for 10 cars, tents, gazebos is pretty much a fruitless exercise which as you say will be nibbled at when you're not looking/drinking/sleeping.
