Rover just hit me - what is it with Rovers!

About 30 mins i was hit in the rear by a rover 200. The back end is pretty bad (lower end, bumper). The boot wont shut - seems like the top of the number plate or whole rear has moved forward a touch as the clamps aernt lining up. Really concerned and would like peoples thoughts. its a 97 4.2 which cost me £13K 4 months ago. Im worried in case they write it off - would they? Also it will obviously need painting if repaired - how will they match it or am i looking at a full respary? Car still drives OK. gutted to say the least.
It must be something in the air.
I'd just left my house, travelling gently down a main road, when a woman pulled out of a t-junction straight in front of me (about 15 feet in front of me) turning right.
I came to a easily controlled halt (from all of 15mph) which then left me plenty of time for assorted gesticulations as she drove past
I'm, just glad that I wasn't going any faster as I'd be needing a new front end!

Very little I suspect, should be mainly cosmetic damage.. no chassis parts for a good foot from the rear of the car atleast. Had a similar prang, sorted for £1k as a huge favour inc paint.
They even corrected somewhere that had'nt been repaired properly before we even bought the car?!! you should be ok.

This time, the crack has gone past the centre of the registration plate, and I reckon it needs both rear quarters.
I've just dug the quote out from the last one.. for a rear quarter £1500, light, seals etc £300. 82 hours labour £3200.
That doesn't include paint, I had the whole car painted because the old paint was ten years old, and I was worried about the ten year old paint blending with the new stuff (extra £2100)
So that was £7436 for a quarter & full respray.
The other persons insurance has got to supply a courtesy car, your looking at a month for the car to be fixed at £50 a day car hire, that's another £1500.
For a car booked at £12k, I reckon they'll be having a good think about it this time.

I'm afraid I have to agreed with RUSSELM. If you get a repair shop to quote for the work, I'd expect the price to be a large percentage of the value of the car. I'd also suspect that they'll pitch the quote to try to get the work, so I'd bet against a write off. I had a prang in the Chim a couple of years ago. It was just fibreglass damage to the front offside near the lights and on the passenger door. No doubt the repair shop went to town on the work to milk the insurer, so no doubt it could have been more cheaply, but given they billed something like £8k, there'd be a limit to how much lower they could go. I would guess the bill will largely be determined by how many fibre glass bits need to be bought from TVR.
As I mentioned earlier, we had a huge favour done for us and only the back was painted.
Russ, that figure is scary!! - we had a light disagreement (actually not that light, these cars are bloody strong) with a tyre wall - glad we decided to fix it ourselves now! Well.. dad did the work, I was too busy rebuilding my car.

Just to reassure you..I was rear-ended in a '97 4.2 by a BMW 3 series in June (Turning left, stopped to wait for pedestrian to cross, BMW decided to go through me rather than around me). Damage looked horrible, but Ewelme sorted it to as-new standard for £3K (plus another £2k in rental charges for a replacement hire car). There was never a question of it being written off.
One thing: Make sure whoever does the work replaces & re-hangs the exhaust correctly. The mountings take ages to adjust properly.

Ive just mailed the pics to Ian at tvr torque to give me a quote. There insurance company have given me a merc as a replacement until mine is fixed - god knows what that's costing them. Just had another look and it looks like everything under the reg plate needs replacing and sone of the cracks are in the corners on the boot lid. i cant see anything thats travelled down the rear quarters as yet. I will also be asking for a full respray incase they can't match the paint.
Don't worry mate i am sure they will be able to fix her up nicely. I was shunted in teh rear a year or so back, craks and marks all over the place and a smashed indicator lens. But all gor sorted out, and she looked as good as new (well in fact better as the respay covered up a few bits of cracked paint)
