Dunno, sensible head is saying a Suzuki GSX600F because:

They're cheap
Reasonably quick
I wont care if it gets all furry during the winter commute
I wont care (so much) when I fall off like a prat in a really n00b-ish manner somewhere. nerd

After a bit of practice I can get something fun next autumn for high days n dry days and keep the GSX for the daily grind.

At least, that's the (current) plan.... I'll probably change my mind around about 11:28am tomorrow.

My sister had one as her first bike (brand new import from Bikeworld) and I thought it was gutless. Oil cooled Bandit engine IIRC. The styling of the 'teapot' was a bit hit-or-miss, too.

The metalwork, especially the downpipes, was notorious for corrosion.

The first model Fazers were a much better bike, as were SV650s etc.

rsvmilly and I usually agree. (See my profile to understand why.)

SV650 is a much better bike.

I rode an SV650 during my GSXR1000 service - hated it at first but once I'd worked out that it wasn't a full on sports bike rolleyes , I ended the day loving how easy it was to ride, great fun!

I had one as a loaner whilst my Mille was being serviced. It just felt as light as a feather and down the winding, crappy lanes I rode it, it was at least as fast as my Mille.

Nice one mate - ride safe, and get the bike you want rather than the one you 'think' you should get. Otherwise you'll end up chopping it in after a few months (Chilli, I'm looking at you )

Thanks for the word of encouragement guys! My prophecy of changing mind at 11:28 was scarily accurate!!!

I was beating my local dealers door down at 09:15 this morning, a nice helpful chap called Steve chatted to me for a while about the options open to me, then around about 10:30 he set me of for a play on the first of a couple of bikes. I was surprised and told him I'd be back in 10-15mins and he said "Nah mate, go out for longer than that! "

I knew right then this was gonna be a fun day. laugh

Five and a half hours later the deal was done, we'd agreed a price, I wanted a couple of minor changes to the bike and all that was left to agree was the collection date: "4:30 this afternoon sound okay?" EH? "Hold on, I'll check with my service guy: Stu, can you get this ready for today? Go on, the guy just passed yesterday and he wants a new bike."

I thought crikey, this is fast!

So..... 16:30 on 18th Oct 2006 chris became the very, very proud owner of a 52 silver FZS600 Yammie!

Lovely bike...

Good work!

Remember to wash the crud off your bike very regularly at this time of year as the salt (soon to go down) makes a furry mess of your bolts and aluminium.

Yeah, really busy coupla days! Fun tho.

Don't know if this is against forum rules or not, but I forgot to mention the garage where I did all my training and got my bike and have had such great service and advice so far: so big thanks to Ride On Motorcycles in Glasgow. thumbup

Anyway, the bike wasn't all I got yesterday and I finished getting my kit for commuting, and got the lock and the cover and the lubes etc and I also got some of that magic Scotoiler stuff that protects the bike from corrosion I think? Not sure how it works but I'll figure it out on Monday when I get the bike ready for its first week of commuting. Poor little thing has led such a pampered life before, it's about to get a big shock: someone who actually uses it!
