First Porsche (My sons) what to buy!??
Discussion
Hello , my son is buying his first porsche but he is VERY unsure what to invest in , choices are (all 996)
TT
TT X50
GT3 MK2
GT2
Max Price - 60k
He's going to be using it weekends only , he is well into track driving and hates tiptronics , turbo's appeal to him for the tuning aspect but the GT3 appeals with the raw track car profile , the GT2 is a bit of an odd ball as he loves it but is scared of it from what he has read!
Opinions please!

Lots of track use means a GT3 or GT2.TT much too heavy for track use imo..TT

If he wants the car mainly for track use, go for a GT model as the TT is more an everyday driver. A GT2 despite being hugely capable does generate massive cost in terms of maintenance. Its composite breaks are a big issue. They are hugely expensive (5k plus) but are everything but fit for intense track use. Many people needed to have them replaced already after 6-10k and Porsche's comment was that the PCCB's were not really made for the track (for what then FFS?!). I'd go for a GT3 which is already good fun and spend the extra money on the sticky tyres..

Sorry , when i wrote investment i didnt actually mean that , lol , cars very rarely make money!
He was very biased towards the GT3 in the first place but he loves his tuning (used to own a s/charged E46 m3) and that's why the turbo appealed

Then it's going to be expensive and a GT2...

If he really is well into the track days then any of those cars could end up expensive. You are asking for two different sets of aualties for a good weeked car Vs track car. I run a 911 on the road and wanted to buy a track car to entertain clients. We fancied a Caterham for the purity and running costs but in the end went for a tuned 944 turbo. 4 k got us a very capable track car, but another 4 k would make it really awesome and not much would get past in the right hands (not mine!)
Sometimes though it just has to be a 911
