Or perhaps a Rover T350C?

Autocar carries a small item on the future of TVR after PW retires. The journalist suggested that MG Rover is taking a look and PW admitted they have had some MG folks up in Blackpool recently.

Alternatively maybe MG are looking for an alternative engine for their road racer? It would be slightly ironic for a Rover-based company to go to TVR for an engine!

Well at least they are Petrolheads!

It won't be branded as an MG I'm sure and they will at least bring some modernisation to TVR.

Any company that brings out a 1,000 hp Nitrous bastardmobile gets my vote!

Do they need modernisation? Put it this way, if someone does to new TVRs what they did to make the Aero 8 out of the Morgan +8 I'll be sticking to second hand TVRs. (I'm sure its a very nice car, but no, not my cup of tea).

Obviously someone needs to take over, but not sure who.. Hey Ted Fancy expanding your empire?

Used to work for Rover a while ago at the time they had the 'Above all its a Rover' tagline. Always thought that was a double edged sword..

If anyone was to purchase TVR I would much rather it be MG than anyone. They are British and with the X Power SV they have shown that they can continue the mantra of raw power at the cost of everything else.

Is this really true? How old is PW and do you really think he'll give it all up at 65?

Bloody shame if he does and even more of a shame if MG take over (that from a flat cap wearing, beardy tappet adjusting MG-er!)

I rather like the idea of a Rover 4500.

Take 1 x Rover 75, add 1 x Cerbera 4.5 V8 engine and stir briskly till you've blown the doors off BMW/Merc?Jap Nutter mobile around!!

Is it not more likely that Rover were there to sell PW K series engines for the much touted S replacement?

What???? Is TVR planning to build a car without a TVR engine in it.
I thought that TVR had ruled that out as a possibility.

MG were at the factory last week as they were hoping that TVR can produce some bits for them that TWR used to make.

Thats all.

That's good business sense. They undoubtedly have great engineering skills so it makes sense to market that! Well done TVR!

Matt.

Totally agree. Deosn't he have any sons or daughers that could take over, keep it in the family? Or an existing employee.
*Edited to add daughters

Edited again to admit im talking shit. PW is the chairman and doesn't own the company, so he couldn't 'hand it down'. On the other hand, when he does retire, why would it make any difference to getting taken over or not? Surly in business terms, its just a position needed to be filled, usually internally promoted?!

To quote Autocar (hope they don't mind)

Quote:
Wheeler denies buyout rumour
One of the juciest rumours doing the rounds at Geneva surounded a potential buy-out of Blackpool-based sports car company TVR - by none other than MG Rover. According to a reliable source we were told that TVR chairman Peter Wheeler, now 58 and with two young children, wants to retire and sell his business, provided he could find the right buyer.
However, Wheeler denied all knowledge of the MG Rover deal.
"Yes, some people from MG were up here," he said, "We were having a look at doing some bits on the SV for them. But, good grief, I don't think that means we're about to sell out to them"
"We've had all sorts of approaches from all sorts of people over the years. But we're still here, and will be for a while yet as far as I'm concerned"
end quote:

So there you go, there was a rumour, but (as Gaffer said - hello Gaffer) it was MG wanting to get TVR to do some work for them

allegedly

I hope PW stays for years to come. My better half only became hooked on Tivs after seeing the Top Gear (?) special on them a while ago and subsequently visiting the factory - we both love the idea of someone as passionate as PW building British cars of power and beauty, particularly someone who supports British engineering and turned down the offer of BMW engines because he wanted British engines in his cars. Long may he reign!!!!
